Comprehending iron manufacturing technology through metallurgical analysis was limited to metal relics produced in the past. This has brought about the effort to restore ancient iron manufacturing methods which use the traditional method subsequent to the middle ages. However, studies on ancient iron production relevant to the iron manufacturing process are just at the basic level. Therefore, this study analyzed slag and ironware, reproduced through traditional smelting and reproduction experiments, by a metallurgical method. The samples categorized the slag and ironware, which was produced through the reproduction experiments, into smelting ash, refining, and forging ash, and the analysis was able to deduce the chemical composition, basicity, refined structure, and extrusion temperature of the reproduced slag and ironware. By comparatively analyzing the reproduced slag with the ancient slag, the study attempted to deduce the restoration and changing process of ancient iron manufacturing technology. The analysis results revealed that the basicity of the reproduced slag was between 0.13∼0.23, and confirmed the presence of acid operation. The basicity of the ancient slag from the Gangwondo region, which was the subject of comparison, scored between 0.11∼0.34, confirming the presence of acid operation. The analysis to find out the presence of calcareous additives, by means of the SiO2 and CaO ratio of nonmetallic inclusion, revealed that the reproduced sample was not added with calcium compounds but was detected with a high amount of CaO. This shows that, when determining the presence of calcareous additives to ancient samples, judging by means of the CaO content must be done with caution. An examination of the chemical composition of the reproduced slag revealed that the slag had a partially high CaO content and a high content of TiO2 despite reducing the magnetic iron ore, which was assumed to have been segregated from the clay or raw ore used to make the paddle at the time. The welding specimen from the reproduced slag was not properly welded, so a gap occurred within the specimen. Also, it was originally intended to improve and strengthen the mechanical nature of the meta by tempering the core part of the insection to iron knife 1 from the reproduced ironware, but it seems the desired strength of the ironware was not achieved because the cooling rate was insufficient and the process failed to reach a high temperature before quenched tempering. Also, welding was not accurately achieved when conducting laminated welding of different iron frames so that holes and cracks were observed inside the structure. This would have made the iron with differing carbon amounts difficult to weld or manufacture into ironware when laminating or welding. Observations to the nonmetallic inclusion of the reproduced slag and the ancient slag revealed fayalite and wüstite inside the glass slag, which made it known that the nonmetallic inclusion structure of reproduced slag and ancient slag was similar. Also, an estimation of the extrusion temperature of the reproduced slag and the ancient slag by using the FCS and FAS type constitutional diagram revealed that they were in the similar range of temperature. This allowed the researchers to determine that the reproduced slag and the ancient slag were operated, within a similar temperature range.
