Alertness about earthquakes is increasing recently due to frequent earthquake damages. Seismic retrofit is required to reduce member damages of nonseismic structures from seismic load. Among conventional seismic retrofit methods, the steel plate strengthening method has excellent seismic resistance performance because it can reduce lateral load with thin steel plates. However, the conventional steel plate strengthening method requires vertical stiffeners. To improve this, a strengthening method using corrugated steel plates was researched. Corrugated steel plates do not need vertical stiffeners because they consist of horizontal panels and sloping panels and can only resist shear force by accordion effect. However, due to the geometric characteristics of corrugated steel plate, it is difficult to determine rigidity and shape parameter. Research on corrugated steel plates is mainly focused on bridges and girders. Recently, many researchers are trying to use corrugated steel plates as seismic devices, but research about this is still insufficient. In this study, to evaluate the seismic performance of steel frame structures using corrugated steel plates, the characteristics of corrugated steel plates were analyzed, the structural performance of corrugated steel plates was verified through experiments, and the seismic performance of mid- and low-story steel frame structures reinforced with various corrugated steel plates. For elastic buckling analysis, the buckling behavior and tendency according to the shape and section parameters of the corrugation were analyzed. Based on the analysis results, the structural performance of 11 models according to the section shape and vertical length of the corrugation as well as the structural performance of a steel frame structure reinforced with corrugated steel plates was verified through repeated loading test. Finally, to evaluate the seismic performance of the corrugated steel plates, mid- and low-story steel frame structures were reinforced with corrugated steel plates and the seismic retrofit effect of the corrugated steel plates on the total structure were examined.
