As people's time for leisure has expanded as the population's income has risen, people's interest for weight training has also increased. Therefore, the number of people entering body building competitions has grown significantly, but basic materials on body building are limited. Hence, the purpose of this study lies on serving as basic material of exercise treatment for athletes participating in body building competitions by investigating hematological variables. 1. In this study, blood was drawn from 9 elite body builders of age 27 and above, classifying into three stages across 16 weeks: non-competition(16 weeks before the competition; 1st stage), preparation of competition(4 weeks before the competition; 2nd stage), and shortly before the competition(1 day before the competition; 3rd stage). For each training stage, 6 items of which are the composition of body, blood lipids, liver function, kidney function, electrolyte metabolism, and inflammation and muscle damage were set as indices, and the corresponding body composition and hematalogical variables were investigated. Body fat(BFM) and neutral fat(TG) showed significant decrease during the period. Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT), Blood urea nitrogen(BUN), Creatinine(CR), Creatinine kinase(CK), and Latate dehydrase(LDH) showed significant changes as well. Other than the above, other items did not show any significant changes during the period. Based on the fact that athletes' strict dietary control during the training period and intense exercise gave impact on the changes of their liver function, kidney function, inflammation and muscle damage, additional research will be required to find out how the negative variables found in this study can be minimized in order to provide an improved exercise treatment program.
