The purpose of this study was to examine the actual condition of operation of outside activities for young children's physical activity. This study was initiated because young children of 3-5 years old in the Nuri Curriculum had to carry out age-based outside activities daily including gross-motor. For this, study questions were established as follows: In order to collect data, a questionnaire survey of 200 teachers who were working for public and private kindergartens in the jurisdiction of the GangdongSongpa District Office of Education, Seoul was carried out and 163 responses were collected. Questionnaire items were worked out in accordance with the purpose of this study, based on the questionnaire of Han Bo-ra (2013), teacher's guidebook for the Nuri Curriculum of young children of 3-5 years old, and data distributed by the district office of education. The face validity of the questionnaire was examined with experts in early childhood education and highly experienced early childhood teachers (more than 10 years). Collected responses were encoded by items and analyzed with such analytic techniques as frequency, percentage and χ² test, using the SPSS program. Study findings are as follows: First, regarding the actual condition of outside activity facilities for young children's physical activity, most of kindergartens established spaces for outside and inside activities, including an open space in which large group activities were possible, a rest area, and composite play facilities in which simple and fixed physical activities were possible. However, it is necessary to sufficiently establish outside sport and play facilities for young children's physical activity, which is carried out in connection with inside activities, such as diverse play equipment and facilities for water/sand plays, woodwork plays and role plays. In addition, it is necessary to improve the condition of outside activity facilities, thus helping young children's basic motor ability and creative physical activity which are appropriate to their development and interest, using materials and tools. Second, regarding the actual condition of operation of outside activities for young children's physical activity, the teaching plan included concrete outside activities that helping young children's physical activity, and most of kindergartens planned and carried out a partitioned activity of 60 minutes, once a day, 5 times in a week. However, there were not enough human resources who supporting the execution of outside activities for young children's physical activity and therefore classes for children of five years old or mixed ages had problems in safety supervision. Regarding the types of outside activities for physical activity, most frequently carried out activities were sport plays and sand/water plays, and public kindergartens more frequently carried out them than private kindergartens did. On the other hand, kindergartens of which classes were more than eight frequently carried out observation of plants and animals, walks or excursions, and experiential learning, but they carried out it as a large group event, due to insufficient supporting human resources. In addition, the operation of outside activities for physical activity focused on outside free-choice activities, and therefore, the guidance of outside activities was not executed systematically. Therefore, it is necessary to procure supporting human resources urgently, and thus systematically operate the physical activity of 60 minutes per day, described in the Nuri Curriculum for young children of 3-5 years old. Third, teacher's perception of the importance of outside activities for young children's physical activity, of the outside activity-related contents of physical exercise/health in Nuri Curriculum, and of outside activities by ages was higher. The perception of public kindergartens was higher than that of private kindergartens. The level of perception of teachers with a long career was higher than that of teachers with a short career. Early childhood teachers at public kindergartens concerned about facilities & environment, safety, and the sufficiency of contents of activity, whereas early childhood teachers at private kindergartens found difficulties in securing the time for outside activities. Regarding the role of teachers, they perceived themselves as a guide of safe activities. Regarding the type of outside activities for physical activity, they thought children pleasantly took part in sport plays and water/sand plays. In this vein, in order to enhance the teaching efficacy of physical activities in relation to the operation of outside activities of 60 minutes per day, described in the Nuri Curriculum for young children of 3-5 years old, it is necessary for teachers to increase the understanding of textbook knowledge on physical activities (Lee Yun-gyeong, 2015), and develop/operate diverse physical activity programs for young children's safe and diverse outside activities.
