This study was intended to help decision of food intake timing that enhances muscle exercise performance ability of normal people. Groups of 6 men in their 20s-30s were assigned to group 1(hunger state), group 2(one hour before muscle exercise), group 3(2 hours before muscle exercise) and group 4(3 hours before muscle exercise). The experiment was done for 4 weeks with different food intake timing every week, and the exercise program was done in the order of warm-up, main exercise and finishing up exercise. The exercise intensity was set as 75%(10RM) of maximum muscle strength. Blood glucose levels, lactic acid and free fattyn acid were measured right after exercise, 5 minutes after exercise, 10 minutes after and 30 minutes after. and for the collected data, average and standard deviation were calculated through SPSS/PC 17.0 statistic program for window. For verification of average difference, 1-way ANOVA was done between groups by the periods and between periods by groups. The result is as follows.
1. The blood glucose levels didn't show significant difference between groups by the periods and between periods by groups. 2. The blood FFA didn't show significant difference between groups by the periods and between periods by groups. 3. The blood lactic acid didn't show significant difference between groups by the periods, while showed significant difference between periods by groups. As a result, food intake according to intake timing before muscle exercise didn't affect the change of levels of blood glucose, FFA and lactic acid . However, at food intake 1 hour before muscle exercise, the lactic acid showed low level compared to other food intake timing, and glucose level also showed high, so food intake 1 hour before muscle exercise seemed to enhance muscle exercise performance ability. Nevertheless, in the future, continuous studies are needed with exercise condition and food composition considered.
