The present study is aimed to examine the musical diversity of Nuevo Tango played in the tracks of Pablo Ziegler'a album 'Quintet for New Tango', which is a genre that grew popular along with popular music and jazz during latter's golden age. Nuevo Tango, which is also called 'New Tango', is musical genre that developed from classic tango to one for listening by Astor Piazzolla a famous Argentinean bandonion player. Astor Piazzolla let Pablo Ziegler join his quintet as a piano player and made jazz sound in tango. Pablo Ziegler, who had worked with Piazzolla for 10 years, was much inspired by Piazzolla not only musically but also ideologically. Therefore, musical diversity, which is a trend of modern music, can be observed in Pablo Ziegler's music. This study compared and analyzed the tracks in Pablo Ziegler's album and classic tango and found musical diversity used in Nuevo Tango. To create musical diversity, Pablo Ziegler introduced such musical elements as different composition of instruments, frequent change of tempo in a song, playing repeating patterns by using pattern of rhythm and melody, sound music, new playing technique, collage Technique using harmony and melody found in Astor Piazzolla's songs, and elements of then-popular music and jazz. This study is aimed to examine musical diversity in Nuevo Tango, applying the theme of musical diversity, which is mainly dealt for the modern music of the late 20th century, to tango which has been analyzed only musically. Furthermore, it is expected that musical diversity is examined in more diverse genres of music and this attempt encourages in-depth study of tango to follow.
