This study is the descriptive study through a literature review and a questionnaire, which was conducted of children and their parents with acute lymphoblastic leukemia under chemotherapy depending on the treatment phase. Thus, this study was aimed to minimize the negative effects by identifying social adjustment and quality of life in the children through their self-report and their parents’ agent report, confirming the affective factors, understanding the challenges of pediatric cancer patients, and providing the intervention measures based on the results. To that end, statistics were analized with SPSS version 17.0 program to examine the social adjustment and quality of life in 52 couples of the children aged 13 ~ 18 and diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia at C University of S Hospital located in Seoul from November 2015 to January 2016, child under from maintenance regimen to remission regimen, who could communicate, understood the purpose of this study and the contents of the questionnaire. The results are as follows: the degree of social adaptation and quality of life in children in the course of treatment was not significant different as the result of the children’s self-report and the parents’ agency report at each phase from maintenance therapy to remission regimen. In addition, there was a significant difference after the paired t-test on the quality of life that the parents perceived and the quality of life that the children themselves perceived. The results revealed a significant difference in the physical area as a low region of the quality of life. Social adaptation according to the general characteristics in the children showed a statistically significant difference in gender. Quality of life in the children. which the parents reported was statistically, significantly difference in religion and the patient’ status. Social adaptation in the children according to the disease-related characteristics through their self-report and their parents showed a statistically significant difference depending on the treatment place, activities performance capability, and functionality impaired or not. In a self-report in the children, there was a difference in quality of life depending on the activities performance capability. In addition, the relationship between the children and parents showed a significant differences in both social adjustment and quality of life and a correlation between them. These resulting provides the following implications: for the children and parents, appropriate nursing interventions need be carried out from an early stage treatment so that children or adolescents cancer patients can adjust to society and improve quality of life after treatment is over. In addition, it is necessary to approach both children and parents collectively at the same time, not individually, for a positive interaction to occur.
