The objective of this study is to suggest how to utilize traditional cultural content through mediums called “creative children's poems" so that the base of our traditional seasonal customs which have been passed down to our modern days can be further expanded. In this study, the meanings and history of the traditional seasonal customs are sorted and reviewed especially in terms of the customs that change by each season and month based on "Joseon Daesesigi" and "Hankook Sesipoongsokjaryojipseong" published by the Korean National traditional Museum. And further a total of 35 creative children's poems related with the traditional seasonal customs were analyzed and their cultural aspects of the poems were sorted out in terms of seasons, lunar calendar's marking of seasons and traditional holidays. After then, seasonal or festival foods and plays contained in the poems were further reviewed. Major findings are shown as follows. First, in terms of seasonal categorization, out of 35 pieces, 21 pieces were for spring, 2 for summer, 6 for fall and 6 for winter. In terms of the lunar calendar's marking of seasons and traditional holidays, among spring related poems, 5 pieces were for Seol(New Year), 8 for Daeboreum(the biggest moon day). 1 for Yipchoon(Start of Spring), 2 for Sahmjinnahl(the third day of the third lunar month), 2 for Choonboon(Vernal Equinox), 1 for Chongmyung(Pure Brightness) and 1 for Hahnsik(the 105th day after the winter solstice). Among summer related poems, 2 pieces were for Dahno(the fifth day of the fifth month), among fall related ones, 2 for Chilsok(the seventh day of the seventh month), 1 each for Choosok(Thanksgiving day) and Chooboon(Autumnal Equinox) and 2 for Sahnggahng(First Frost). Among winter related ones, 1 each for Yipdong(Start of Winter) and Dongji(Winter Solstice), and 2 each for Daehahn(Severe Cold) and Seotdahl Geumeum(New Year's Eve of the lunar year). Second, as a result of analyzing the traditional culture shown in those poems 31 pieces were for customs, 7 for traditional seasonal foods, 3 for traditional seasonal cloths while 11 for traditional seasonal plays. Among these customs, 19 pieces were for spring, while 2 for summer, 6 for fall and 4 for winter respectively. Among traditional seasonal foods, 3 for spring, 1 for summer, 2 for fall and 1 for winter. Among traditional seasonal plays mostly derived from wishing for rich harvest, health or happiness, 7 for spring, 2 for summer, 1 for fall and 4 for winter.
