This is the study about Adolescent Novels Covering Problems Related to Social Minority for Students in Korean Literature Class. While, in the past, adolescent novels mainly consist of character’s reminiscence recalls readers’ past made readers living in modern times feel a sense of psychological distance, they currently affect recognition expansion by covering real problems among adolescents or embodying the major problems facing society today such as problems of social minorities, non-regular workers, and environmental pollution in the work. In particular, it can be said that the problems of social minorities in diversified society being embodied in the adolescent novels are created based on the necessity of literature to provide the point under discussion for the progress of diversified society. And besides, the problems of social minorities such as disabled people and sexual minorities are also exposed in the society in general. Readers can take some time for introspection about their attitude and even understand others by experiencing indirectly the challenges that minorities face with through the novels including critical mind. This study defines adolescent novels as the literature targeting adolescents as readers and being created and enjoyed by using the lives and thoughts of adolescents as its subject matter. And it focuses on the educational implications that adolescent readers can grow up through the lesson of adolescent novels and the process they feel about the lives of characters. If we search adolescent novels covering the problems of social minorities among adolescent literature series published from each publishing company, many characters are embodying the problems of reality where they are suffering from economical problems or being otherized by biased views or excluded from community. Characters who are minority can be categorized into the one who cognize independent awareness and otherness and the one who proceed toward restoration of independence and solidarity with the world. The the characteristics of adolescent novels covering this subject matter are as follows. First, adolescent novels covering social minorities show growing process of ego as well as accusing the prejudice and discrimination issues of mainstream towards minority. Through the discussion thus far, we have inquired the literary education value and application plan of the adolescent novels covering social minorities. Adolescent novels approach adolescent readers with various aesthetic ways by catching life problems of adolescents and actual issues of the day. In particular, the adolescent novels covering social minorities will help adolescents to earnestly search for the ethics of the Other and expand thinking spectrum of adolescent readers by reflecting directly the problems of our society.
