This study analyzes the effect of angle conditions of rehabilitation equipment for supporting the standing action of hemiplegic patients on their rehabilitation training. The study was performed by adjusting the rear angle of seat inclination through a motion analysis. Owing to a loss of muscle rigidity and degradation of muscle control ability, hemiplegic stroke patients suffer from asymmetrical posture, abnormal body balance, and degraded balance abilities due to poor weight-shifting capacity. The ability to shift and maintain one’s weight is extremely essential for mobility, which plays an important role in our daily life. Thus, to improve their ability to maintain weight evenly and move normally, they need to undergo orthostatic and walking training. Through a motion analysis, the hip flexion angle and knee moments of both sides (hemiplegic side and non-hemiplegic side), as well as the maximum walking distances (to the right, left, and front of the center of mass), were compared and analyzed for six angles (0°, 10°, 20°, 30°,50°, 70°) supported by the sit-to-stand rehabilitation equipment. It was proven that as the angle increases, the energy needed to stand and support center-of-mass mobility decreases. Furthermore, as the angle increases, weight-bearing asymmetry on both sides and left –right wobbling while standing decreases, resulting in balanced standing. In addition, it was proven that as the angle increases, the patient’s weight-bearing ability improves on both sides, but this effect is also insignificant for angles greater than 50°. It was observed that with increase in angle, there is also an improvement of COM(Center of Mass) forward movement; however, at 70°, this support was confirmed to be unnecessary. Therefore, the results of this study showed that the rehabilitation effectiveness increases as the angle increases, leading to a balanced standing posture and an improved weight-bearing ability on both sides. However, angles higher than 50° yield insignificant results and support COM forward movement more than necessary. Therefore, the support angle under 50° was proposed in this study. This study identified how the angle of inclination supported by sit-to-stand support equipment affects the rehabilitation process (i.e., standing up training) of hemiplegia patients. The results of this study are expected to be applicable to the design of sit-to-stand support equipment to improve the effectiveness of the rehabilitation process of hemiplegia patients.
