Recently, the use of thermal energy storage system with phase change material (PCM) is considered to be one of the most important tools for energy saving in building sector. And a lot of interest has been paid to use of the essential techniques for thermal applications in buildings. However, PCMs need shape-stabilization and improving thermal conductivity for application in buildings. Among them, vacuum impregnation technology is considered to be a more effective method of incorporation compared to other shape-stabilization technologies. Therefore, this study selected the vacuum impregnation method as phase stabilization method for application to building materials. In this experiment, three types of PCMs were used to incorporate the silica fume and diatomite. From the representative result, the n-octadecane/diatomite composite showed 116.8 J/g and 112.9 J/g of latent heat-storage during heating and freezing, respectively. However, the PCMs still had low conductivity property remained after shape-stabilization process. So in the next study, carbon nanoparticles were applied to manufacture the thermal conductivity improved SSPCM (Shape-stabilized PCM) as a PCM container. In the representative analysis, the thermal conductivity of Bio-based PCM and Bio-based PCM with xGnP showed 0.154 and 0.557W/m∙K, respectively. Consequently, Bio-based PCM with xGnP showed a 375 % increase of thermal conductivity in comparison with the Bio-based PCM. Finally, the developed SSPCM with high thermal conductivity was applied to the various building materials such as concrete and gypsum board. From DSC measurement, concrete with 30 wt% of SSPCM showed 27.75 and 24.67 °C of phase change temperatures during heating and cooling, and its latent heat capacities were 26.68 and 23.46 J/g, respectively. And the heat-storage gypsum board with 30 wt% of SSPCM showed 59.68 J/g and 58.26 J/g of the latent heat capacity during heating and cooling. From the heat transfer analysis, the concretes with 10, 20 and 30 wt% of SSPCM showed 260, 300 and 280 min of time lag effect caused by SSPCM. And the gypsum board with 30 wt% of SSPCM showed a time lag effect of more than 720 min compared to the plain gypsum board on the inner surface. Also from the computational analysis, maximum peak temperature of 30 wt% SSPCM concrete and gypsum board treated test building showed peak temperature reduction effect and 240 and 300 min of time lag effect.
