To analyze consumers' perception of harmfulness of cosmetic products, This study conducted a questionnaire survey with 340 consumers in their 30s to 50s. According to the analysis on the total number of cosmetics in their use, the consumers who used 1 to 10 types of products accounted for 44.6% of 303 persons, and 24.1% were found to use 20 to 30 types of products. Regarding to the number of cosmetic products by sex, 42.9% of female consumers used 21 to 30 types of products, and 93.2% of male products 1 to 10 types of products. Regarding to the number of cosmetic products by age, high school students in their 10s and those in their 20s used 1 to 10 types of cosmetic products, and those in their 20s with consumption power used 11 to 20 types of products, and therefore there was the most statistically and significantly difference between them. According to the analysis on harmfulness of cosmetic products, 57.1% were concerned about harmfulness, and 37.6% and 25.4% raised their awareness of harmfulness through TV programs, and through news and articles, respectively. They thought that natural and organic cosmetic products free of preservatives, flavor, and color are safer than generally distributed ones. Of the harmful ingredients of cosmetic products that they are concerned about, paraben accounted for 38.6%; oxybenzone-benzophenone 24.4%; surfactant 17.5%; synthetic dye stuff 14.2%; synthetic dye flavor 4.6%. The result was similar to that of the previous study (Lee Hye-jin, 2015). Consumers' perception of harmfulness of cosmetic products was analyzed. As a result, 54.1% experienced cosmetic trouble. Although they thought that the all ingredients display system is generally helpful, they had more interest in cosmetic functionality than cosmetic harmful ingredients. UV blocking accounted for 21.7%; whitening 19.6%; and wrinkle-care 17,6%. Their perception and understanding of cosmetic harmful ingredients were very low as shown in the previous study (Yoon Su-hyeon, 2014), because of the cosmetic terms hard to understand. Nevertheless, high school students in their 10s were more interested in those in other age groups. Given that, it seems to be necessary to offer consumers' right to know to prevent any side effects caused by improper ingredients, to promote the all ingredients display system to find the causes of side effects quickly, and to provide continuous promotion and education to deal with cosmetic harmfulness.
