The purpose of this study was to comparatively examine the criteria of selection and reading of picture books between teachers and parents and then make kindergartens and families share information on children's literature education and achieve the linkage of educational activities between them. For this, study questions were established as follows: 1. 'Is there any difference in the selection of picture books between teachers and parents?' 1-1. 'Is there any difference in the perception of selection of picture books between teachers and parents?' 1-2. 'Is there any difference in the current status of selection of picture books between teachers and parents?' 2. 'Is there any difference in the current status of reading of picture books between teachers and parents?' Study findings area as follows: First, there was a significant difference in the current status of selection of picture books between teachers and parents. Both group's perception of selection of picture books was similar, but parent's perception was higher than that of teachers. When selecting a picture book, teachers took 'its appropriateness for the developmental level of children' into account mostly, and did not consider 'the awareness of publishers' much. On the other hand, parents attached much importance to 'the reflection of children's interest and demand' and did not consider 'the awareness of writers' and 'picture book-related award-winning' much. Regarding the perceptual difference in the selection of picture books between teachers and parents, teachers and parents attached much importance to 'children's interest and demand' and 'appropriateness for the developmental level of children' alike, whereas their consideration of 'children's individual situations' was relatively low. In conclusion, the difference in the current status of selection of picture books between teachers and parents was statistically significant. The order of importance, regarded by teachers and parents in the selection of picture books for children, was the same, and the current status of selection of picture books by teachers and parents was relatively similar. However, the current status of selection of picture books between teachers and parents was relatively different in the consideration of 'educability.' This finding seems to present the fact that the desire of teachers and parents to deliver educational things to children through picture books is not reflected on reality, and they just select something young children take interest in it and demand. Second, regarding the current status of reading of picture books by teachers and parents, both groups presented significant difference in current status of reading of picture books. Child-care teachers read picture books to a large group of children for the most part, and selected picture books alone or in consultation with children. When they read picture books to a large group of children, they interacted with children after reading it. Teacher's time to read picture books to children was shorter than that of parents. Teacher's reading of picture books was different from parent's in which children are the main agent of selection of picture books and parents read picture books to individual children and then interact with them. This difference is seemingly caused by the characteristic of kindergartens. Regarding the genre of picture books, teachers and parents frequently selected 'realistic picture books' by taking 'young children's interest and concern' into account. If picture books of diverse genres are read to children through the linkage of activities between families and kindergartens, without restricting genres, young children's emotional/cognitive/social development will be improved. This study comparatively examined the difference in the perception and current status of selection and reading of picture books between teachers and parents, thus verifying the effect of perception of teachers and parents on young children's literature education and providing information on the mutual supplementation between teachers and parents. The author hopes study findings will be used as basic data on the smooth communication and organic connection between teachers, parents, kindergartens and families, through the reading of picture books, a representative teaching/learning medium of integrated education.
