Development of an Education Program Model for a Lifetime Design after Retirement
The aging population today is a challenge of the 21st century experienced in all of the countries around the world. Specifically, Korea worries about national changes, while Korean citizens worry about personal changes that may arise from rapid aging of the population and the retirement of the baby boomers. In this time of rapid social change, the necessity of lifetime design for after retirement is becoming increasingly important for elderly to be able to prepare for happiness in their old age. Education regarding lifetime design after retirement will help reduce national level social and economic costs associated with the aging society and improve the quality of life for retired individuals. A goal of lifetime design after retirement is to help individuals have a plan on how to live a happy life until at least the age of 100. By aggressively defining life expectancy, lifetime design after retirement can ultimately improve quality of life well into old age. Lifetime design after retirement is a plan recognizing the changes that individuals experience after retirement, and id used to help them be happier in later life by preparing them for various problems that may arise. Successful aging and meaningful retirement can be achieved by taking part in education that is designed by integrating perspectives about various aspects of life such as retirement, health care, interpersonal relationship, leisure, hobbies, and housing. In addition, lifetime design after retirement should be prepared to provide economic resources and education that can be used to solve problems such as needing food or medical services. The purpose of this study is to develop an education program model for lifetime design after retirement and assess the practical possibilities and impact on retirees to be able to continuously improve the program model. The results of the study are as follow. An educational program model for a lifetime design after retirement was designed by applying the interaction model of Caffarella and Daffron. This was accomplished by exploring a variety of education program modules and content for lifetime design after retirement. Six modules were created for a Lifetime Design after Retirement education program: 'Recognition of Change Due to Retirement', 'Outline of Lifetime Design after Retirement', 'Basics of Lifetime Design after Retirement', 'Successful Case Studies and Field Trips in the Detail Areas of Lifetime Design after Retirement', 'Deepening of Lifetime Design after Retirement', and 'Application and Practice of Lifetime Design after Retirement'. Lifetime Design after Retirement education program content was developed to include: ‘Non-financial Retirement Life Design’, ‘Diagnosis of Household Financial Condition', 'Calculating Necessary Finance for Old Age', 'Planning Practical Strategies for Financial Design'. After completion of the course, retirees planned their own lifetime design by applying the education program contents taught.
