In order to reduce the amount of energy consumed by buildings, many countries tend to reinforce the building energy efficiency performance and standards. Thus, heat insulation property of buildings is an important factor to reduce the use of energy and to enhance efficiency. Moreover, floor noise among households have become a more serious problem along with noise problems occurring from construction sites in Korea. It is known that noise and floor noise occurring in construction sites are dominantly low-frequency band with under 500Hz.
Therefore, this study investigated the impact of the addition of waste paper on the foamed concrete performance by using waste paper as the main component to develop foamed concrete with excellent thermal insulation property and excellent sound absorption property at a low-frequency band.
Experiments were conducted with the amount of wastepaper added and the time of mixing using mix-foaming as variables, and the following conclusions were obtained.
Regardless of the addition of waste paper, the porosity of the specimen increased with increasing mixing time and the density decreased accordingly. However, due to the waste paper, the porosity tended to be higher even though the density of specimen was high in some conditions. For sound absorption property, Sound absorbing coefficient of low-frequency and effective porosity tended to increase as the amount of the waste paper addition increased. Also, it was confirmed that the ratio of 250Hz and 500Hz is higher in the NRC calculation. The thermal conductivity had high correlations with the dry density and porosity and it had a high correlation with the closed porosity in contrast to the sound absorption property.
Therefore, it is considered that the addition of waste paper plays an important role in the sound absorption of low-frequency and acts as a bridge to connect the pores. So, in this study, the effect of the improvement of the sound absorption property was confirmed through the use of waste paper, and the possibility of the waste paper utilization was confirmed.
