With respect to the water content of soil in the process of purifying the soil contaminated with oil and harmful substances, this study investigated drying characteristics according to the temperature of hot air and microwave output energy in a conveyor drying system through the primary drying process of the contaminated soil with high water content through the fusion process of 2kW magnetron and hot air to manufacture a dryer and apply operating conditions. In addition, it attempted to identify the drying performance and confirm the mechanical stability of the dryer. An evaluation on the drying performance was performed by using a two-stage type conveyor belt dryer manufactured to overcome the low drying efficiency, which is a problem of the conventional conveyor belt type dryer. in order to assess the processing performance and identify drying characteristics and operating conditions. As a result, the drying rate constant with the total drying time according to the water content of the material to be dried was represented by the relationship between the initial water content and the drying time of the final limiting water content, (hr), the drying rate showed the form of an exponential function, and the drying efficiency through the combination of microwave and hot air drying was higher than the drying efficiency of a single drying process of microwave and hot air. The water content of the initial moisture was 82.6 %, and the microwave supply was 2.7kW at 320 ℃. When the conveyor feed rate was 20, 30, 40 and 50 RPM, the initial water content decreased with the passage of time and change of temperature. Looking at the moisture content with the total drying time according to the water content of materials to be dried, sample A with the initial moisture content of 82.6 % reached a water content of 60.2% after elapsed time of 20 minutes when a 2.7kW microwave was supplied at a rate of 20 RPM at a temperature of 320 ℃, and a water content of 19.3% after elapsed time of 40 minutes, and sample B with the initial moisture content of 47.3 % reached a water content of 30.5% after elapsed time of 20 minutes when a 2.7kW microwave was supplied at a rate of 20 RPM at a temperature of 320 ℃, and a water content of 12.7% after elapsed time of 40 minutes. In the case of sample C with the initial moisture content of 19.3 %, it reached a water content of 14.7% after elapsed time of 20 minutes when a 2.7kW microwave was supplied at a rate of 20 RPM at a temperature of 320 ℃, and a water content of 7.8% after elapsed time of 40 minutes. The changes in moisture content were observed according to the hot air temperature and microwave output energy supply, and the boundary time implemented from constant drying rate to falling drying rate ranged from 30 minutes to 40 minutes. At the time of a single drying process of hot air in a two-stage conveyor belt type microwave – hot air drying equipment, sample A with the initial moisture content of 82.6 % showed a water content of 34.5% after elapsed time of 40 minutes when the drying was done at a rate of 20 RPM at a temperature of 180 ℃, and sample B with the initial moisture content of 47.3 % showed a water content of 19.7% after elapsed time of 40 minutes when dried at a rate of 20 RPM at a temperature of 180 ℃. In the case of sample C with the initial moisture content of 19.3 %, the water content was 9.6% after elapsed time of 40 minutes when dried at a rate of 20 RPM at a temperature of 180 ℃. A comparison of the drying efficiency between a single drying of hot air and a combined drying of microwave and hot air revealed that the moisture evaporation rate was higher in the combined drying process. Based on the moisture removal rate of the 2kW magnetron hot air drying in this study, further studies are needed for application to the removal of harmful substances in soils.
