The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of Mindfulness Meditation on Binge Eating Behavior and its associated psychological factors in female university students. The participants in this study were university students who prone to binge eating disorders. 29 students were selected by BES(Binge Eating Scale), BIS(Barratt Impulsiveness Scale) randomly assigned to 14 in the Mindfulness Meditation group, and 15 in control group. The Mindfulness Meditation program were administered for 6 sessions (60 minutes each, twice a week). The mindfulness meditation group and control group completed pre-test, post-test, 3 weeks follow-up test. As the measurement tool, the researcher used Binge Eating Scale(BES), Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire(DEBQ), Symptom Check List(SCL-90-R), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale(BIS), the UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale(UPPS-P), Stop Signal Task (SST), and Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale Revised(CAMS-R). As the result of analysis, binge eating behavior, emotional eating, anxiety, depression, impulsivity was significantly decreased in mindfulness meditation group compared to the control group, and the effect kept on the follow-up test. On the Stop-Signal Task, stop signal delay time(SSD) and go signal reaction time(GORT) of mindfulness meditation group was longer than that of control ones, and the effect kept on the follow-up test. Longer SSD and GORT means decrease of inhibition deficit. stop signal reaction time(SSRT) was no significant change in mindfulness meditation group compared to the control group. Finally, implications of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
