Hovering is an essential feature when a quad rotor performs its mission. Inertia measurement devices are mainly used for attitude measurement and control of the quadrotor for hovering. However, since the inertia measuring device calculates the velocity and the position by integration, the error is accumulated over time. In order to compensate for this, a method of continuously correcting errors by combining physically different sensors is used. In this study, we propose a method to stabilize the hovering of the quad rotor by preventing the divergence of velocity and position by combining the camera with the inertial measurement device. We designed a system to estimate the moving speed and position of the quad rotor by installing a camera toward the bottom of the quad rotor, calculating the optical flow between the two images, and combining with the angular velocity acquired by the inertial measurement device. The pyramid Lucas-Canade method, which is a representative method of rare optical flow, is used as an algorithm for calculating the optical flow. In order to reduce the error due to image distortion and the amount of computation, only a part of the image center area is designated, and the feature points are extracted only in this area and used in the optical flow calculation.
