In this paper, a strain gauge sensor was fabricated by mixing nickel and PDMS, and a carbonization process using a laser on a polyimide film. In this way, a study on flexible-low cost piezoresistive sensor and its characteristics have been carried out. The advantage of this study is that the overall structure and principle are similar to normal MEMS sensors, but the process is simplified by using screen printing on acrylic molds without using wafers. In addition, instead of applying the piezoresistive material used in the normal silicon piezoresistive sensor, the complexity and cost of the process were reduced by mixing the Nickle and the PDMS. The resistance of the piezoresistive sensor, which is made of nickel and PDMS, was measured by the tensile test. (The synthesis ratio of nickel and PDMS was experienced on 3:1, 3.5:1, 4:1.) It is confirmed that the resistance is too high to be used as a MEMS sensor, when the ratio is higher than 4:1(Nickel:PDMS). In most of previous studies used laser with a length of 10.6μm. Thus, the laser had a minimum linewidth of 140 ~ 220μm. But this research increased the resolution by using a femtosecond laser with a wavelength of 1046nm. Furthermore, the minimum linewidth of the carbon was reduced to 35 ~ 40μm by finding the optimum ratio of the power (W) and the speed (scan rate) that the femtosecond laser equipment printed on the polyimide film. Based on this study, the feasibility of new and simple process-based sensor fabrication was confirmed.
