This study aims at defining the counseling teacher experiences regarding countertransference that occur during counseling, and at understanding their meaning and nature. For this, the study sampled six counseling teachers and conducted an in-depth interview with them using questions from a semi-structured interview. In addition, their experiences were analyzed based on the psychological method of the American psychologist Amedeo P. Giorgi. As the results of the analysis show, 165 meaningful units were drawn. They were grouped into 32 sub-elements, and according to a temporal structure, were then categorized into nine elements. The results of the study indicate that, first, the key elements of the countertransference of the interviewees are `the counseling environment of the school that hinders their concentration on counseling', `student characteristics', `counseling teacher dynamics', `avoiding the problems of students', `pressure from a desire for recognition', blaming themselves for their counseling', `efforts to overcome countertransference', `practices for effective counseling', and `maturation of counselors through countertransference'. These experiences of counseling teachers were recorded in detail within a situational structure. Second, as the counseling teacher experiences regarding countertransference are those related with the process and their relationships, this study presents such conflicts according to a temporal flow and counselor relationships. In terms of the temporal flow, the study divides the experience of countertransference into five processes: `contextual element of countertransference', `the phenomenon of countertransference', `handling countertransference', managing countertransference', and `results of contemplating countertransference'. It then describes and schematizes the counselors' experiences in each process and their interactions with the students in their relationships. Finally, the study defines the essence of the counselors' experience in overcoming countertransference during their counseling as their maturation through their experience of countertransference, as well as the practices of effective counseling in the school environment that hinder their counseling. Based on the results above, the meaning and implications of this study can be drawn as follows. First, this study has meaning in that, through the vivid explanations of the counseling teachers, it looked at their experiences in countertransference during their counseling. Second, this study has meaning in that it offers the types of supports that are needed for counseling teachers by shedding light on the present conditions of the counseling environment of the schools, and at the same time, analyzing their experiences of countertransference both deeply and structurally. Third, this study offers information that will help would-be counseling teachers understand the real situations of their school, and provide meaningful implications for the education and tranining that will be implemented for new counseling teachers. In addition, the results of this study can be used as materials that will let would-be teachers know the basic qualifications to become a counseling teacher, and they show the necessity of customized support strategies.
