The variability of the East Asian Winter Monsoon, which represents the winter climate in East Asia, is influenced by various factors. The Kuroshio Current, a major flow in the northwest Pacific, affects the Korean Peninsula and the surrounding oceans and can be considered as a factor affecting the East Asia climate. The warm Kuroshio Current, flowing along the northwest Pacific Ocean, travels northward from the equatorial Pacific, transporting tropical moisture and heat to the mid-latitudes. Therefore, the Kuroshio Current is a major factor in the East Asian region. In this study, to analyze the correlation between the variability of Kuroshio currents and the winter climate in East Asia, we set two cases that represent Kuroshio currents. The Kuroshio extension and the Kuroshio recirculation were set to K1 and K2, respectively. First, the K1 index showed a significant negative correlation with the East Asian winter monsoon indices. Correlation analysis between K1 and winter(December-February) sea surface temperature(SST) showed a significant positive correlation of more than 0.4 in the East Sea and West Sea. Correlation analysis with sea atmosphere temperature(SAT) in the winter showed a significant correlation between the Korean peninsula and the southern coastal area of Japan, which was about 0.5 or more. Analysis of correlation with mean sea level pressure(MSLP) showed that there was a significant positive correlation in the same year in the autume(Sempember-November) area including northern part of Japan and eastern part of Russia, and it was accompanied by south east wind which crosses the Korean Peninsula and southern part of Japan Which can weaken the winter monsoon. In addition, when the East Asian winter monsoon index is strong, strong Siberian high pressure in the northwestern part of the Korean peninsula and a strong Aleutian low pressure in the northeast part are located. This structure, along with the advection of cold air on the Korean Peninsula, means that it can change the atmospheric circulation, which affects the variability of Kuroshio currents, accompanied by strong northwest winds. Secondly, K2 index showed a weak correlation with East Asian winter monsoon indices in simultaneous correlation and lead-lag correlation analysis showed stronger negative correlation with K2 index in next year East Asian winter monsoon. These results indicate that correlation analysis between winter SST and SAT in the next year shows a stronger positive correlation than the correlation analysis result of the same year in correlation analysis with East Asian climate factors. Analysis of correlation with SST according to seasonal changes showed that the area showing a positive correlation between the Korean peninsula and some surrounding areas in the autumn(SON) and winter(DJF) of the following year is gradually increasing. This can be attributed to the fact that the warmer Kuroshio currents originating in the equatorial Pacific move northward and carry the heat of the tropics to the mid-latitudes. In conclusion, this study can help to understand the effects of changes in the atmospheric circulation on the Kuroshio currents and the effects of Kuroshio currents on the atmospheric factors, that is, the ocean-atmosphere interactions associated with Kuroshio currents in East Asia.
