Approximately 70% of the equatorial thermal energy transported to the ocean is transmitted to the atmosphere between latitudes 25° - 45°N, and this heat transfer is mainly through sensible heat and latent heat emission in the western boundary current, represented by the Kuroshio Current and the Gulf Stream in winter. These air-sea interactions play an important role in the climate system. In particular, the gradient of sensible and latent heat on the Kuroshio currents maintains the lower tropospheric baroclinic of the atmosphere and affects the lower cyclone development and the average climate in the surrounding area. The activity of the oceanic heat flux has a strong influence on the transient eddy vortex and moisture flux in the free atmosphere as well as in the boundary layer. In this study, we analyze the oceanic heat flux and the atmospheric condition of the East Asian Kuroshio Current, and the mechanism of the East-Asian air-sea interactions ont the ocean front. To investigate the role of air-sea interactions on the ocean front near the Kuroshio Current, the intensity of Kuroshio Currents was indexed using SSHA(Sea Surface Height Anomaly). The defined SSHA index is in good accord with the KE(Kuroshio Extension ; Qiu et al. 2014), which is defined as the sum of the upstream KE path length, KE strength, upstream KE position, and KE recirculation gyre strength. To understand the air-sea interaction around the Kuroshio Current, we analyzed impacts from the ocean front by comparing LHF(Latent Heat Flux), SHF(Sensible Heat Flux), and atmospheric circulation during stable and unstable years. As the Kuroshio currents become unstable, the release of latent and sensible heat due to turbulence increases, leading to differences in the latent heat vertical structure of the lower atmosphere. Thus, low pressure circulation anomalies in the Northwest Pacific region strengthens and induce the north-weterly low of cold and dry air inflow. This increases the air-sea temperature difference to form a positive feedback that increases latent and sensible heat release.
