The Effects of Visual Feedback Short Foot Exercise on Foot Alignment and Foot Pressure in Adults with Flexible Flatfoot원문보기

This study was conducted to examine the effects of visual feedback short foot exercise on foot alignment and foot pressure in young adults with flexible flatfoot. The subjects of this study were 24 young adults with flexible flatfoot who were randomly assigned to a visual feedback short foot exercise group and a short foot exercise group. Each group performed the exercise five times per week for six weeks. Foot alignment was measured using the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and four radiological measurements were taken from lateral and antero-posterior x-rays (calcaneal inclination angle, lateral talocalcaneal angle, antero-posterior talocalcaneal angle and antero-posterior talometatarsal angle). Foot pressure was measured using the Tekscan Mat scan system for the contact pressure of the 1st toe, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4-5th metatarsal, midfoot, medial and lateral heel and the contact area of the midfoot. In the visual feedback short foot exercise group, the calcaneal inclination angle, lateral talocalcaneal angle, antero-posterior talocalcaneal angle and antero-posterior talometatarsal angle showed significant differences (p<.05). The short foot exercise group showed significant differences (p.05). In the visual feedback short foot exercise group, significant differences (p<.05) were observed for the contact pressure of the 1st toe, 1st, 3rd and 4-5th metatarsal, midfoot, medial and lateral heel and contact area of the midfoot. The contact pressure of the 3rd and 4-5th metatarsal, midfoot and contact area of the midfoot showed significant differences (p<.05) in the short foot exercise group. The contact pressure of the 1st toe, 3rd metatarsal and the contact area of the midfoot showed significant differences between the groups (p<.05). These results suggest that the visual feedback short foot exercise is an effective exercise for young adults with flexible flatfoot in terms of changing foot alignment and moving foot pressure from the medial to the lateral area.
