With the recent needs for CO2 sequestration, mineral carbonation technology is attracting attention as a part of CCUS(Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage) technology. The purpose of this study is to optimize the effect factors of pH swing unit process for indirect mineral carbonation by using waste concrete powder as industrial byproduct to sequestrate carbon dioxide and apply it to batch and continuous type indirect carbonation process, And then, the effluent recirculation operation method was applied to the continuous indirect carbonation process to induce the mineral carbonation efficiency improvement. In addition, for the consideration of CO2 sequestration characteristics, we distinguished CO2 sequestration by PCC (Precipitated Calcium Carbonate) and non-PCC, and presented a model for each type of CO2 sequestration characteristic. The amounts of CO2 fixation according to the number of pH swing reactor reuse were 0.039mol, 0.017mol, and 0.008mol and the amounts of PCC were 0.019mol, 0.004mol, and 0.0003mol respectively. It was confirmed that a difference occurred between the total amount of CO2 fixation and the amount of PCC production. In order to understand the characteristics of CO2 sequestration by mineral carbonation, the first inflection point, the second inflection point, and the last inflection point, which occur during mineral carbonation reaction, are defined and their characteristics are analyzed. There were PCC section where CO2 is reduced as synthesis of calcium carbonate and non-PCC section where CO2 is reduced as carbonate or bicarbonate ion form in aqueous solution. CO2 reduction characteristics by PCC and non-PCC are shown as CO2 fixation for NaOH concentration and alkalinity and we tried to analyze it by using the relationships between NaOH concentration, alkalinity and total CO2 fixation. In a result of analysis using the relationships, CO2 fixations from non-PCC calculated using the relationships were significantly higher than the expected amount of CO2 fixation by non-PCC. Therefore, it is considered that there are additional factors, not simply NaOH concentration or alkalinity, and further study is needed to identify and analyze the influence factors on the CO2 fixation by non-PCC. As a result of the investigation of the characteristics of precipitated calcium carbonate produced by mineral carbonation, high purity calcium carbonate, 100% CaCO3, was obtained in both of batch and continuous processes. The contents of PCC samples examined by XRD quantitative analysis were 100% Calcite in batch process, 96.1% Calcite, 3.9% Aragonite in PSR 1st packing experiment and 46% Calcite and 54% Vaterite in PSR 2nd packing experiment. Thus, PCC produced from the mineral carbonation process in this study can be used as raw materials for industrial purposes such as paints and paper.
