In recent years, with an increase in purchasing patterns of a little extravagance for oneself, in which value is highly regarded, and as an effort to fulfill these needs, retailers have come up with various promotion strategies to enhance the attractiveness of their products. In one study, we verified the differences in consumers’ perception of value according to the types of framing in coffee shops when a price discount of bundled products was used as a promotion strategy in the food service industry. Then, to repeat and verify whether these differences in the aforementioned study were identical to other types of businesses in the food service industry, we performed another study on additional dessert cafés and ultimately analyzed differences between the two studies. In this study, Americano and tiramisu cake, which complement each other, were components of a bundle product, and, according to consumers’ purchase purpose, the bundle product was categorized as a focal or tie-in product, and the price discount framing types were categorized as mixed-leader and mixed-joint bundles. The purpose of this study was to identify whether there was a significant difference in consumers’ perception of value according to the mixed-leader or mixed-joint bundle. To conduct this study, participants in their 20s and 30s living in Seoul or its metropolitan area, who had visited coffee shops or dessert cafés, were chosen from a panel of a survey agency, Macromill embrain Ez survery, and divided into Study 1 (coffee shops) and Study 2 (dessert cafés). We performed a survey consisting of 4 purchase scenarios and test advertisements depending on the types of price discount framing. A total of 610 samples were collected from the participants. SPSS and AMOS statistical package programs were used for data analysis to verify the validity, reliability, and suitability of the test model. The t-test was used to verify changes in consumers’ perception of value. In Study 1 (coffee shops), there was a significant difference in the perception of gain and transaction value in consumers’ perception of value based on the mixed-leader bundle. For the mixed-joint bundle, a significant difference was observed in price fairness, perception of gain and loss, and transaction value in consumers’ perception of value. In Study 2 (dessert cafés), there was a significant difference in favorability, price fairness, transaction value and the perception of gain in consumers’ perception of value based on the mixed-leader bundle, and a significant difference in all sub-factors of value perception was observed in the mixed-joint bundle type. In this study, we attempted to verify a difference in consumers’ perception of the price discount framing of bundle product using price fairness, favorability, gain and loss perception, and purchasing value as the sub-factors of value perception. Among other promotion strategies of bundle products, the segments of a price discount were verified; thus, this study can be deemed to contribute to future studies and lay the theoretical basis for bundle product promotion strategies. When a promotion strategy with a price discount of bundle products is marketed in a single framing, it is more effective to provide an integrated discount in coffee shops, whereas a discount of the focal product is more effective in dessert cafés. Not only this, but, from the perspective that there was a difference in consumers’ perception of value according to the framing types, this study holds significance as it verifies the necessity of marketing a price discount of bundle products by segmenting the framing according to consumers’ shopping patterns.
