A Study of the Effect of Smart Factory Solutions on the Improvement of Productivity for Multi-product/Low Volume Manufacturers원문보기

Almost 50% of manufacturers in South Korea are multi-product/low volume manufacturers. However, most of these manufacturers are small to medium sized companies and problems such as insufficient automated production system, low processing standards, and high defect rates arise. In addition, lead times are long and inventory management efficiency is low. Companies have tried to solve these problems by applying supplementary production methods such as JIT and modular production according to the company’s environment, but many multi-product/low volume manufacturers are unable to invest in automation due to high costs, so the problem of low production efficiency persists. This study analyzes the production process of a multi-product/low volume company before and after incorporating 3D printing and collaborative robot into an existing production line. The effects of whether these smart factory solutions will increase the company’s productivity (labor cost reduction, defect rate reduction, increase in quantity produced, etc.) is analyzed through a direct filed test. The effects are digitized and put into a database in order to introduce SMEs, who lack funds and manpower, smart factory solutions that can help them increase their productivity and improve financial structure.
