As climate changes have lately become more compounded, abnormal weather phenomena take place frequently such as the growing number of days of scorching heat and the emergence of steamy climate. In the area of swine raising, farm productivity also is affected to a greater or lesser extent by a decline in sow productivity resulting from a decrease in the conception rates of farms, and by the delayed supply of finishing pigs that is attributed to delayed growth which results from feed intake reduction. The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of swine farmers on climate changes, their coping with the changes, and changes in sow delivery rate and return to estrusrate(RER) caused by high temperatures in the summer season. In addition, the professional user data of the HFMS were used to analyze the correlation between the temperature variable and swine productivity, and whether there were any differences in swine productivity according to pig house facilities such as windowless and fenestrated pig houses was analyzed. The relationship of productivity to crucial influential factors that were climate, facilities and environmental management skills was analyzed based on the views of swine experts to determine how swine farmers should cope with climate changes, especially changing weather conditions like high temperature and high humidity, and what influence these factors exercised on swine productivity was evaluated. As for the impact of climate changes on swine productivity, the farmers mentioned extended shipping periods, rising heating and air conditioning costs, waning conception rates, declined feed intake and increasing new diseases as the consequences of climate changes. The phenomena that are declined feed intake, declining conception rates and lengthy shipping periods are directly linked to farm profit, and rising heating and cooling costs is a factor to impact on farm management such as an increase in machinery and electricity expenses. On the other hand, the farmers coped with climate changes by installing heating and air-conditioning facilities, by building new modernized facilities, by adding urethane onto the ceilings and roofs and by replacing fenestrated pig houses with windowless ones. Besides, they took preventive measures including disinfection against infectious diseases and also took vegetation management measures such as planting trees to improve surrounding environments, and they insured their livestock against disasters to avoid possible risks. Thus, they responded to climate changes in various ways. In a word, climate changes had impacts on swine productivity, and the swine farmers made various efforts to overcome it. Accordingly, it's required to find out what influences climate changes actually exert on swine productivity. So the professional user data of the HFMS that is a farm specification management program run by Korea Pork Producers Association were used to make an analysis of the correlation between climate changes and swine productivity. The climate change variables that were selected in this study were the number of days with maximum temperatures, the number of days with minimum temperatures and average temperatures between January and December. And 97 farm data of 2016 were used, which were selected from among the professional user productivity data of the HFMS. The selected indicators of swine productivity were delivery rates and return to estrusrate(RER)s. A delivery rate refers to the actual delivery performance of sows after mating, and a return to estrusrate(RER) indicates whether mating is done properly or not. As a result of analyzing the data to determine the correlation, temperature changes were correlated with delivery rates and return to estrusrate(RER)s, but temperature rises such as the number of days with maximum temperatures had no correlation with swine productivity. So a survey was conducted on the randomly selected 76 farmers to find out the presence or absence of facilities for environmental control in their farms and their productivity. As there are mostly windowless pig houses in farms that are equipped with facilities for environmental control, a comparative analysis of MSY was carried out between the windowless pig houses and the fenestrated ones. As a result, the maternity barns and piglet houses of 50(65.8%) out of the 76 farms were windowless, and those of 26 farms(34.2%) had windows. When the MSY of the two different groups of farms was analyzed, the average MSY of the windowless pig houses was 19.7, and that of the fenestrated ones was 17.3. The productivity of the former proved to be far higher than that of the latter to the extent that there was a difference of 2.4 in MSY. In terms of size, the 모돈평균사육두수 of the farms with windowless facilities was 279, while that of the farms with fenestrated facilities was 202. Thus, the larger farms were equipped with windowless facilities to boost productivity. The findings suggest that a lot of farms have already improved their facilities to cope with climate changes, especially temperature changes. In addition, another survey was conducted on the selected experts to evaluate the influence of related factors on swine productivity, and facilities were found to be most influential, followed by environmental management skills and climate. In terms of the facility factor, insulation was identified as a subfactor to have the largest impact on swine productivity, followed by extractor fan, windowless pig houses, air conditioner and heater. It should be noted here that all these facilities are for environmental control. As to environmental management skills, sow performance was most influential, followed by stocking density, ventilation method, record management, temperature management, feed quality, boar performance and medicine. Among these items, ventilation method and temperature management are environmental management skills. The final vital factor is climate. The number of days with high temperatures was most influential, followed by daily temperature range, maximum temperature, humidity, minimum temperature and average temperature. Thus, the experts gave top priority to facilities for environmental control, facilities and environmental management skills in the area of swine raising. In a word, the farmers improved the facilities and environments of their farms by installing heaters and air conditioners and by building new modernized facilities and windowless pig houses to minimize the impacts of changing temperatures from the outside to prevent possible damages caused by temperature changes in advance. And the experts from academic and industrial circles and the researchers also stressed that facilities and environmental management skills were more important than external temperature changes. On the other hand, the government should pay attention to not only larger farms but also smaller ones and offer assistance for farmers to make an investment in their facilities such as installing windowless ones to boost swine productivity regardless of farm size, since there were differences in averege farming sow heads between the farms equipped with windowless maternity barns and piglet houses and the other farms with fenestrated ones.
