This study was aimed to examine the influence of group expressive arts psychotherapy on self-esteem and peer relationship in children from multicultural family. Participants were 16 elementary school students in grades 3-6 in Gyeonggi area, and were randomly assigned into a experiment group and control group half and half. The program which consisted of 10 sessions was conducted twice a day for 80 minutes per session for 5 weeks from July to August, 2017, and control group received no treatment. Self-esteem and peer relationship were measured in Pre and post-test in self-esteem. Homogeneity between the groups was assessed through Mann-Whitney U test using SPSS 18.0 before the program, and Wilcoxon signed ranks test was conducted to evaluate the effect of the program after the program. Also, qualitative analysis was conducted about the change processes of self-esteem and peer relationship during the program. The results of this study were as follows : First, the group expressive arts psychotherapy program had a positive influence on self-esteem of children from multicultural family. Specifically, this result was revealed a total of self-esteem (z=-2.25, p<.05) and the subfactors (general self-esteem, social self-esteem, and home self-esteem). Second, First, the group expressive arts psychotherapy program had a positive influence on peer relationship of children from multicultural family. Specifically, this result was revealed a total of peer relationship (z=-2.37, p<.05) and the subfactors (emotional support, common activity, and exchanging activity). Third, in regard to change processes during the program, the children from multicultural family behaviorally expressed what they want and actively participated through emotional stability by group expressive arts psychotherapy program. In the therapeutic environment of support and acceptance, children from multicultural family experienced emotional stability through the program and expressed freely what they wanted. In addition, through cooperation, they have experienced positive interaction with group members to form a cooperative relationship. This suggests that group expressive arts psychotherapy has a positive effect on children's self-esteem and peer relationship of children from multicultural family by forming cooperative relationship with group members. These results suggest that the group expressive arts psychotherapy program had positive influence on self-esteem and peer relationship of the children from multicultural family. Therefore, this study has significance that it proved the group expressive arts psychotherapy program decreases difficulties by stranger environment in children from multicultural family and can provide opportunities which allow them to grow into mature members of society by improving their self-esteem and peer relationship.
