As the importance of wastewater treatment and technological advancement are becoming a necessary factor, the existing biological treatment technology in korea is not advanced yet, and it is a fact that it continues to stay. Existing biological treatment methods require large area and long hydraulic retention time with standard activated sludge process. In order to solve these problems, the microorganism immobilization method currently being actively studied at domestic and abroad has a problem that the microorganisms are immobilized in the polymer material, accordingly, the concentration of the microorganisms having a continuous activity in the reaction tank can be maintained at a high level, thereby increasing the treatment efficiency and shortening the treatment time. In addition, the immobilized microorganisms are highly reproducible and have a high survival rate, which is more advantageous than the attachment growth method. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to improve biological treatment methods of existing wastewater treatment by preparing a microorganism immobilization media for wastewater treatment and evaluate physical properties and efficiency. The prepared micro organism immobilization media is harmless using PVA and PEG in which activated sludge used for existing biological treatment is immobilized. In order to indirectly confirm the degree of diffusion of contaminants and the oxygen transfer into the microorganism immobilized media used in this study, a fluorescent substance diffusion test was carried out according to the content of PVA and PEG. In order to evaluate the physical properties of the media like solubility of organic solvent, the dimensional stability in weak acid, neutral and weak base states was evaluated according to pH change. SEM/EDX was used to analyze the surface and inside of the immobilized media, and the apparent density, porosity, pore size and specific surface area, and tensile strength to confirm the durability and physical properties of the prepared media. As a result of the diffusion experiment of the fluorescent material into the media, it was judged that 20%+15%(PVA+PEG) media having no shape deformation and little difference in diffusion degree would be most suitable for practical process application. As a result of solubility of organic solvent, 12 kinds of organic solvents showed insolubility, and from measurement of porosity, pore size and specific surface area results is 20%+15%(PVA+PEG) of media was found to be most suitable for immobilizing microorganisms with the value of 20.3 ㎛, 63.3% and 78.64 m2/g respectively. SEM/EDX analysis showed that microorganism proliferation was active in the media, and surface analysis showed no microorganism injection into the media. Batch-test was carried out to activate the microorganisms inside the prepared immobilized microorganism media using synthetic wastewater. Lab-test of MLE process was conducted to evaluate the process efficiency in various wastewater treatment process. As a result of batch-test, average removal efficiency of CODCr, NH4+-N, NO3--N and T-N were 93.6, 95.3, 96.1 and 96.5% respectively, due to the activation of the microorganisms immobilized in the media. Finally, lab-test results showed that the average removal efficiency of CODCr, NH4+-N, NO3--N and T-N was 81.7, 89.2, 93.5 and 87.1% respectively, which is considered to be stable water quality in the wastewater treatment process. The PVA and PEG microorganism immobilized media developed in this study have excellent physical properties and can be used for a long period of time, as a result of the evaluation of the process efficiency and it is possible to secure the quality of treated water even if the HRT is shorter than that of the existing A2O process, and it will be an economical process due to the reduction of sludge treatment cost because there is no amount of sludge generated.
