The T-N effluent standard of domestic public sewage and wastewater treatment facilities is 20 mg/L or less. In addition, due to the lack of water resources, the supply of reuse water is expanded, and the water quality standard of discharged water is strengthened. Therefore, T-N is required to be treated less than 10 mg/L by the water quality standard. Furthermore, the linkage treatment of industrial wastewater such as manure and livestock wastewater is expanded, and the need for wastewater treatment with high concentration of non-degradable nitrogen is highlighted. Therefore, microbial immobilized media process which can maintain high microbial concentration and shows stable treatment efficiency has been developed and various previous studies have been carried out. The nitrogen removal performance and operating conditions of the microbial immobilized media process were confirmed through lab tests and pilot plant operation. However, the simulation using EQPS, a sewage treatment modeling program, was performed because it is necessary to investigate the operation conditions and performance of the actual sewage treatment plants of the expanded scale, and the prediction of treatment efficiency in high concentration nitrogen-containing wastewater and industrial wastewater. In this study, statistical analysis and simulation were performed based on pilot plant operation data of MLE process filled with microbial immobilized media in J water reclamation plant in Seoul. The results of the basic statistical analysis showed that the inflow concentration of T-N was the highest in August, but since then it has been introduced to a stable effluent concentration of about 40 ~ 50 mg/L. The T-N effluent concentration was gradually reduced after the stabilization period and discharged to a stable concentration of 20 mg/L or less. The data of influent and effluent water quality analyzed through the statistical analysis results and the Sumo 2 model of EQPS were used to perform the process dynamic and static simulation. The sensitivity analysis and parameter correction were used to optimize the T-N effluent concentration after 2 months of operation, and the average concentration was 19.6 mg/L. The average T-N effluent concentration within the entire operation period of pilot plant was close to 19.37 mg/L. The cause of some errors was NO3--N concentration remaining in the aeration tank. The results of dynamic simulations showed that the correlation coefficient between daily T-N outflow concentration and dynamic modeling of pilot plant was r = 0.524 and the significance probability p = 0.00 (<0.05). Finally, the scenario analysis of high concentration nitrogen-containing wastewater was performed to determine the necessity of optimal driving conditions and unit process changes, and evaluated various applicability. The T-N concentration in effluent was predicted to increase as the untreated NO3--N in the aeration tank of the MLE process was released when the high concentration nitrogen containing wastewater of T-N 400 mg/L was introduced. As a solution, it is desirable to add an oxygen-free tank for denitrification to the rear end of the biological reactor. The stable nitrogen treatment performance was confirmed even for long-term operation through continuous operation for 400 days. The optimal conditions for the process were 1 V of the post-nitrogen volume ratio, 4 Q of internal recycle ratio, 0.22 Q of the external carbon source injection amount, and 0.1 Q of the NaOH injection amount. In the case of T-N 1000 mg/L inflow, the method of changing the external carbon source injection position to anoxic reactor was advantageous for nitrogen removal. The optimal conditions of the process were derived as internal recycle ratio 4 Q, the external carbon source injection amount 0.23 Q, and the NaOH injection amount 0.4 Q. In the case of the inflow of meat processing wastewater and livestock wastewater, it was judged that physical treatment such as coagulation precipitation or MBR was required at the rear end for non-degradable organic matter and T-P treatment.
