A study on the effects of supportive group art therapy on job burnout, job stress, and self-soothing ability in emotional workers원문보기

The purpose of this clinical trial study was to investigate the effect of the supportive group art therapy on job burnout, job stress, and self-soothing ability in the emotional workers. The occupation selected in this study as emotional worker subjects was customer service representatives, contained as higher ranks in both ‘occupations with highest intensity of emotional work’ published by the Korean Employment Information Service in 2015 and ‘Report on Emotional Work of Each Occupation’ published by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training in 2013. The voluntary subjects of this study were customer service representatives working in the contact center of a K Home-shopping dispatched from a H Employment Information company and were assigned to experimental group or control group. The therapy sessions were administered two times a week for 120 minutes within work hours (2:00-4:00 PM), totaling 10 sessions, from Apr. 27th to Jun. 8th, 2017. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the analysis of the effects of supportive group art therapy on job burnout in emotional workers showed that, in MBI-GS, the total and each sub-factor scores decreased in experimental group while those scores except for cynicism sub-factor increased in control group, and that the differences between pre- and post-intervention were statistically significantly different between experimental and control groups in both total and sub-factor scores. Second, the analysis of the effects of supportive group art therapy on stress response in emotional workers showed that, in WSRI, the scores for anxiety symptom, anger, and job stress decreased in experimental group and increased in control group, and that the differences between pre- and post-intervention were statistically significantly different between experimental and control groups in anxiety symptom, anger, and job stress scores. Third, the analysis of the effects of supportive group art therapy on the cortisol level in emotional workers showed that the cortisol level decrease in experimental group and increased in control group, and that the differences between pre- and post-intervention were statistically significantly different between experimental and control groups. Fourth, the analysis of the effects of supportive group art therapy on self-soothing ability in emotional workers showed that the resilience, self-exposure, self-soothing, and total scores increased and physical soothing score decrease, while the resilience and self-soothing scores increased and physical soothing, self-exposure, and total scores decreased. It was also shown that the differences between pre- and post-intervention in resilience, self-exposure, and total scores were statistically significantly different between experimental and control groups. These results showed that the supportive group art therapy has positive effects on job burnout, job stress, and self-soothing ability in emotional workers. The implications from this study are expected to be used in developing psychological prevention strategy as a fundamental data by companies.
