The purpose of this study is to develop educational mobile games for learning Korean conversation that can stimulate fun through flow and keep learning motivation constantly. To do this, analysis of educational games for foreign language learning based on flow theory and Keller's ARCS motivational design model was carried out, and need analysis of adult Korean learners for hobby purposes living abroad was conducted. With the increasing use of smart phones worldwide, learning using mobile devices is increasing in teaching and learning environments. Mobile learning has features of mobility, personality, and self-direction, overcoming limitations of time and space, and allowing learners to self-direct themselves, thus providing more learning opportunities to overseas learners. However, the absence of various learning contents and the difficulties of continuous learning still exist. The use of educational mobile games is intended to solve these problems. This study suggests that educational games can complement the disadvantages of mobile learning because it is a learning medium that considers learner motivation and ongoing learning interests. The use of games in learning is to enhance the voluntary and intrinsic motivation of learners through flow experiences. Flow is a complex concept composed of various components. Components for flow in educational games can be seen as reality, fantasy, challenge, satisfaction, control, and attention. Keller's ARCS motivational design model designs the motivational aspects of the learning environment in terms of attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Based on these two theories, the analytical tools were derived by restructuring the categories with flow (sensory flow, challenge-based flow, imaginative flow), attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Four types of educational games for foreign language learning were analyzed using the derived analysis tools. The results showed that the games included flow and motivation factors, which were satisfaction, attention, relevance, confidence, and flow, to be listed by order. Analysis showed that graphic and sound effects, various challenges, reasonable reward systems, induction of natural repetitive learning, story-based composition, active interaction, and consideration of contents are necessary. In order to develop educational mobile games reflecting the needs of learners, the needs of Korean learners in Hong Kong and Singapore for educational games and mobile usage and satisfaction, and Korean conversation learning using educational mobile games were analyzed. Leaners, who are mostly learners for hobby purposes, showed positive perception about the use of educational mobile games and high expectation that they would be able to learn as fun as playing a game. In addition, learners showed a keen interest in topics and situations that could use Korean through practical experiences. Based on the analysis of the educational games and analysis of the needs of learners, educational mobile games for Korean conversation learning were designed and presented. The development process was based on the ADDIE model, which is a teaching design model used to develop learning contents. Twenty learning contents corresponding to topics and functions were selected, and context-based learning strategies and dialogue-oriented learning strategies based of story were used. The stage for learning conversation consisted of three phases: presenting and imitating conversation according to topics and functions, role playing, and constructing a conversation. In the game design stage, the game applied with flow and motivation was designed. In the area of screen, graphic, and sound corresponding to the user interface, sensory flow and attention strategy were mainly used. Through the character setting and background story, imaginative flow experience was possible, and challenge-based flow was provided through learning and quests through various places. In the conversation and practice steps for learning, various strategies of relevance and confidence were utilized. In the reward system, quest, and level, which are elements of the game mechanism, satisfaction-oriented strategies were mainly used. The contents of system and game were designed based on specific strategies and concrete screen examples were presented on how the game was developed. The genre of the designed game is an adventure game and has a high degree of freedom based on conversation and story.
