Effect of O2 and Ar Gas Mixing Ratio on Optical and Electrical Properties of Mn-SnO2/Ag/Mn-SnO2 Transparent Multilayer Conducting Films원문보기

Transparent conductive oxide (TCO) thin films play an important role in photoelectric devices such as organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Indium tin oxide (ITO) is the most commonly used TCO because of its excellent electrical and optical properties. Although, ITO has low resistivity and high transmittance, the brittle nature and thermal instability remain as critical drawsbacks for its use as flexible and transparent electrode. Recently, oxide/metal/oxide (OMO) structured films are potential candidates for high-performance, low cost TCOs with high transmittance, good conductivity, and superior flexibility. OMO films have been proposed as a low-emittance(low-E) glass coating that reflects infrared light and allows visible light to pass through. In addition, the OMO structure ensure superior mechanical flexibility against severe substrate bending conditions, along with competitive stability under ambient atmosphere. Many advantages of the metal embedded multilayer structure have been over the single layer of TCO. In this study, we investigated the optical and electrical properties of OMO hybrid film consisting of Mn (4.04 at. %) doped SnO2(MTO) and Ag. It was found that the measured transmittance of MTO (40 nm)/Ag (13 nm)/MTO (40 nm) multilayer film exhibited the high transmittance of 86.1 % at 550 nm wavelength and the highest figure of merit of 36.6 × 10-3 Ω-1, showing good optical and electrical properties. So far, a number of researches have been performed to find potential alternative for ITO electrode on flexible substrates. However, most papers regarding OMO structured films are reporting the effect of thickness of top/bottom oxide layer and the metal interlayer on electrical and optical characteristics, not much on by deposition condition itself. Based on our previous studies, a proper control of processing parameter, especially gas mixture ratio between O2 and Ar, was found to be crucial in attaining a high transmittance and improved electrical properties. Initially, Mn-doped SnO2/Ag/Mn-doped SnO2 multilayer thin films were deposited by sequential using RF/DC magnetron sputtering at room temperature on PET substrate. The layer thickness was fixed at Mn-doped SnO2(40 nm)/Ag(13 nm)/Mn-doped SnO2(40 nm). As O2/Ar+O2 concentration increased from 0 to 7.9 %, the transmittance varied from 82.9 to 88.1 % at 550 nm wavelengths and the sheet resistance changed from 5.9 to 6.9 Ω/□. The addition of O2 increased the band gap energy from 3.0 to 3.6 eV. The highest value of figure of merit φTC was 48.1 × 10-3 Ω-1 for O2/Ar+O2 concentration 2.7 %, while the transmittance was 88.1 % at 550 nm wavelength and the sheet resistance was 5.9 Ω/□.
