This paper is an analytical research on Robert Alexander Schumann's (1810-1856) 《Three Romances for the Oboe and the Piano》(Drei Romanzen f?r Oboe und Klavier, Op. 94). Schumann's 《Three Romances, Op. 94》is a work dedicated to Clara as a Christmas gift in 1849, referred to as "the most fruitful year". It is the only piece for the oboe by Schumann and is characterized by its simplicity compared to other Schumann's previous chamber music. This paper studied the structure of Schumann's 《Three Romances, Op. 94》which seems simple on the surface through detailed analysis. For this purpose, the artistic value and musical characteristics that Schumann pursued is firstly looked into, and how its influence is appeared in his works by period is examined. Furthermore in order to know the changes of Schumann's style of chamber music, the characteristics of chamber music were divided into early and latter stages for analyzation. As a result of the research, Schumann's longing of the poetic world is discovered through his simple and lyrical duet pieces using the oboe after the Dresden Revolution in 1848, during a confusing social situation. This paper demonstrates through analysis that the outer simplicity of these songs is made through an elaborate intrinsic structure. The three key motifs that make up the theme melody of the first song are modified and used in the entire song. These musical materials are used as they are, but are also transformed into new melodies and musical forms and appear in forms that can not be easily recognized. The three key motivations that are continuously transformed and reverberated give this music unity and the theme melody and transformed sounds are organically seeped into the oboe and the piano, richly intertwined by the polyphonic technique. In other words,《Three Romances, Op. 94》has an abundant relationship within the inherent structure unlike the structure which looks simple on the outside. This is the expression of simplicity that Schumann considered important. In addition, these results show that《Three Romances, Op. 94》is a personality piece in the form of cycle of songs.
