The thermal plasma process was used for the fabrication of nanoparticles. The fabricated nanoparticles were controlled by process design in the field of nanoparticle production, particle refining and particle size distribution. For the calculation of nanoparticle production rate, the process design was developed in plasma process. The goal of process design for the plasma process was simplification of process design because the previous studies about plasma process is too complicate to apply to commercial process easily for the calculation of nanoparticle production rate and efficiency. For the simplification of plasma process, the plasma temperature was assumed as adiabatic plasma temperature and the plasma velocity was assumed as ideal gas. The process design of plasma process was verified by the experimental data. The experiments were performed by different plasma power for the nanoparticle production rate. The results shows that the numerical and experimental values are within an ±18% error range. For the particle refining, the silicon particle was used. The impurity of silicon, especially boron, was removed during the nanoparticle fabrication process. The auxiliary gas was injected to remove boron as a boron compound like a HBO. The process design was performed with the calculation of Gibbs free energy for the reaction using HSC program. The experiments were carried out with waste-used silicon particles. The boron in silicon was removed from 0.5 ppm to 0.175 ppm. This is within the boron allowance for the solar grade silicon. For the control of particle size distribution, the thermophoretic separator was designed. The fabricated nanoparticles which is from the raw material having wide range particle size distribution has the characteristics of bi-modal size distribution. However, for the low manufacturing, the process which use the general alumina having a wide range size distribution has to be developed because of the simplification of the process. With sieving process for the raw material having an uniform size distribution, a process step is added. Therefore, the problem of bi-modal size distribution has to be solved. The thermophoretic separator was designed to solve the bi-modal problem. The temperature difference of thermophoretic separator was used as operation parameter. When the temperature difference was applied more than 104 K, the geometric standard deviation of fabricated nanoparticles was decreased. And the fabricated nanoparticles which is below 200 nm were separated in more than 130 K of temperature difference of thermophoretic separator.
