The Characteristics of Responses to PPAT(Person Picking an Apple from a Tree) Assessment according to the Level of Resilience of High School Students with High Academic Stress원문보기

The purpose of this study was to examine the response characteristics of the Person Picking an Apple from a Tree (PPAT) assessment in accordance with the resilience levels of high school students with high academic stress, and to verify whether the PPAT assessment could be used as a tool to understand the resilience of academically stressed high school students and to supplement verbal psychological tests in clinical fields. For this purpose, an academic stress level test, a resilience level test, and the PPAT assessment were conducted to 109 first and second graders at academic high schools in Seoul. Among the test rests of the students suffering more than the average stress level, a total of 32 drawings which was the sum of the top 30% and the bottom 30% of the resilience levels were finally selected. The Formal Elements Art Therapy Scales (FEATS) and Content Scales were used to rate and analyze the students’ drawings. In the rating, the author and 2 others participated – a doctor who studied the response characteristics of the PPAT assessment for her master’s degree, and an art therapist who was working in the clinical field after earning a master’s degree in art therapy with her thesis about the PPAT assessment. An Independent Samples t Test was used in order to investigate the response characteristics of the FEATS in accordance with the resilience levels of the high school students who had high academic stress, and a Chi-Square (X2) test was conducted to identify the difference among Contents Scales. As a result of analyzing test results with a focus on the research subject, there were statistically meaningful differences among three scales of the FEATS – ‘Color Fit’, ‘Logic’, and ‘Details of Objects and Environment’, depending on the resilience levels of high school students experiencing greater academic stress. Among the categories of the Contents Scale, only ‘Representation of Simple Clothing’ and ‘Environment and Details: Natural Objects – Clouds, Rain, Wind’ showed meaningful differences. In conclusion, this study confirmed that the PPAT can be useful in identifying the resilience level of high school students with higher academic stress.
