The aim of this study is to identify a relationship between nursing college students’ satisfaction with their major and their engagement in the major. By identifying and testing the relationship between such academic satisfaction and engagement, the study intends to suggest ways in which nursing students can deal efficiently with their academic performance and to discuss the implications the study has for nursing majors. The study was conducted using a survey among 127 students at two nursing colleges, each located in Busan and Gyeongsangbuk-do, from September 11 through 21, 2018. Using the SPSS/PC 22.0 program, the following analyses were carried out: subject characteristics, exploratory factor analysis, descriptive statistics of key variables, t-test and ANOVA, and correlation, and regression analysis. The results of the hypothesis test were as follows: First, the analysis results found that the nursing students’ perceived satisfaction with their major had a statistically significant (β=.776, p<.001) positive (+) effect on their engagement in the major, with a high level of influence. Second, when the students’ engagement was analyzed by having the sub-variables of satisfaction with the major as independent variables, general satisfaction proved to be a powerful factor having a statistically significant (β=.542, p<.001) positive (+) impact, while curricular and relational satisfaction (β=.380, p<.001)also had a positive (+) influence. The above-described results imply that, by increasing nursing students’ satisfaction with their major, their engagement in the major can be improved so that they can be fully prepared to perform their nursing jobs.
