In this paper, we improved the existing Doppler radar and implemented the experiments using designed radars to verify the designed radars. Conventional radar is mainly used for military, but recently it has been used in various fields such as in everyday life. Among the many types of radar, the simplest one of radar is the Continuous Wave (CW) radar. It is advantageous in that frequency resources can be efficient by using the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. But there are also disadvantages of CW radar. Since CW radar can not determine the distance of the target using CW radar, it usually uses the Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar. And the only information from the CW radar is the speed of the moving target through the Doppler frequency. Therefore, we designed the new Doppler radar that can overcome the disadvantages and limitations of existing CW radar. First, we designed the Multiple Frequency Single Radar (MFSR). MFSR operates at multiple frequencies by controlling the Phase Locked Loop (PLL) circuit in radar. MFSR compensates for the disadvantage of the CW radar, which can not measure the distance of the target. However, MFSR can measure the distance from the difference of phase by change of frequency. Second, we designed the Single Frequency Dual Radar (SFDR). SFDR consists of two radars operating at different frequency. By using two radars, we can obtain more information than conventional one. Since two radars operates independently, we controlled the PLL circuit for changing the frequency of each radar. Using these two radars, we implemented the range estimation and gesture recognition system, respectively. We verified the system through the experiments and confirmed that designed radars can compensate the disadvantages of the conventional system. If more studies are conducted, we expect to apply it to various fields in the future.
