Recently, improvements in quality of life and technology have resulted in enhanced car luxury and performance. As a result, consumers' interest in cars has shifted from output and fuel efficiency to vibration, noise and comfort. Automotive companies are increasingly interested in making their cars lighter through experiments from the design stage. Reflecting this trend, the automotive air-conditioning industry is also working hard to make the air-conditioning system smaller and lighter, with major materials of heat exchangers being changed from copper to aluminum and the structure being miniaturized. In the same case as the radiator covered in this study, lighter weighting has already been changed to aluminum in the 1980s through material changes, but the use environment is better than the heat exchangers used in general heat units, resulting in less demand for technological development and more potential for miniaturization and lightening through shape changes. In this study, the radiator model for shape change was made light by changing radiator shape variables, and the radiator model for shape change was compiled by case by case, the heat transfer rate and heat transfer coefficient were obtained through numerical analysis, and the heat transfer performance was compared with the case models, which were largely divided into three topics for numerical analysis. The program used for numerical analysis conducted a numerical analysis using the commercial code, Ansys Fluent, and the basic boundary conditions were set by referring to the preceding study. In the first case, if the width of the heating pin is reduced, the width of the heat shielding pin is reduced, thereby decreasing the area of the heat shielding pin sequentially, thereby reducing the heat discharge area of the entire radiator, thereby reducing the heat transfer rate () and the average UA value. In addition, the cooling water temperature decreases to a similar temperature in the beginning, but as the area of the cooling water decreases to a relatively small order as it nears the exit side. Finally, the heat transfer rate () reduction rate and the value of the radiator weight reduction rate figure are similar. If the width of the second case is reduced simultaneously, the width of the cooling water and the width of the heating pin is reduced, so as in the first case, the total area of the radiator is reduced sequentially, resulting in a reduction of the heat transfer rate () and the average UA value. In addition, by comparing the heat transfer rate () when the width of one cooling water and the width of the heating pin decreased to the same dimension and the width of the heating pin decreased to a larger dimension, the heat transfer rate () when the width of the cooling water decreased relatively slightly and there was a change in the coolant flow rate (which did not significantly affect the heat transfer rate(). Finally, from the standpoint of the lightening side of the radiator, it is advantageous to reduce the width of the heating pin to a larger dimension than if the width of the cooling water and the width of the heating pin were reduced equally. This is because the reduction rate of heat transfer rate is 0.74 % different, but the reduction rate of mass is 2.51 % different. If the height of the cooling water and the width of the heating pin are reduced in the third case, the height of the cooling water and the width of the heating pin are reduced sequentially, as in the first case, reducing the total area of the radiator, which increases the heat transfer rate () and the average UA value compared to the basic radiator model. In addition, it can be seen that the cross-sectional area of coolant inflow decreases significantly, significantly increasing the coolant flow rate, which greatly affects the increase of heat transfer rate (). Finally, from the standpoint of the lightening side of the radiator, it is advantageous when the width of the heating pin is reduced by the same as when the height of the cooling water is reduced only. This is because the growth rate of heat transfer rate is 0.15% different, but the reduction rate of mass is 4.13% different. The numerical analysis found that the heat transfer rate () was equal to or increased as the radiator was lightened. The heat transfer rate () of the radiator is most affected by the coolant flow rate and showed the largest heat transfer rate increase rate and the second highest mass reduction rate in this study case with the case reducing the width of the heat release pin along with the reduction in height to the coolant.
