The purpose of this study is to study the effects of Dictogloss on students’ poetry comprehension abilities. The goal of poetry education in elementary school is to make learners enjoy poetry and have a positive attitude toward poetry. However, in the actual classroom, teaching poetic text is developed as a simple flow of asking and answering impressive expressions or recalling similar experiences, and a genuine understanding process of exploring the meaning of poetry is omitted. Therefore, this study tried to use Dictogloss as a way to help learners to understand the meaning of poetry by concentrating on poetic text in poetic text understanding education. Dictogloss is a Cooperative writing activity that combines traditional dictation and writing activities. It also has the advantage of deepening understanding of the text that is the subject of Dictogloss, and of identifying new vocabulary, language customs, or author intentions that the learners did not know about themselves. Therefore, in this study, learning elements and texts for instructional texts were selected for the understanding of poetic texts, and test tools for measuring changes in the cognitive and affective aspects of learners were prepared. Finally, we examined the effects of Dictogloss on learners' understanding of poetic text by applying the lesson and analyzing the results. The findings are summarized as follows. Chapter Ⅱ clarified the concept and characteristics of Dictogloss, and set learning elements for visual text understanding. Dictogloss is a combination of dictation and gloss. It is a combination of traditional dictation and writing. If the teacher reads a complete text, the learners will write the important vocabulary and expressions as they listen to the text, then cooperate with other learners by recalling the contents and their knowledge of the language. Dictogloss is mainly used in grammar and vocabulary domain guidance, but it is also applicable to poetic text understanding lessons. Dictogloss's stages of guidance are the four stages of 'preparation' - 'dictation' - 'reconstruction' - 'analysis and correction'. First, the 'dictation' stage provides the opportunity for the learners to listen to the poetry recitation of the teacher and concentrate on the poetry text without seeing the poetry text. Learners can grasp the overall atmosphere of poetic text and naturally remind poetic situations and emotions. Second, in the 'reconstruction' stage, the group members are discussed based on the notes they have received, and the activity of reconstructing the poetry text enables the learners to exchange their thoughts on the poetry text. The activity of sharing thoughts on poetry can actively explore the meaning of poetry, share various perspectives, and enrich and deepen poetic imagination. Next, this study set up seven learning elements for understanding poetic texts such as image, rhythm, analogy, objective correlates, a poetic narrator, and subjects. These learning elements were centered on the use of Dictogloss in poetic text understanding lessons. Chapter Ⅲ designed a research method for analyzing the effect of Dictogloss on students’ poetry comprehension abilities. First, two classes for 6th grade were selected as study subjects and each 23 students were divided into experiment group and control group. Then, the poetic texts were selected for teaching by using of Dictogloss. The researcher selected 27 poetic texts with 7 learning elements in consideration of the level of upper - level learners. Twelve final texts were selected using the preferences of 138 children and 14 expert groups. In addition, a 15 hours teaching-learning plan was developed for teaching two texts for each of the seven learning elements, and the instruction process consisted of Dictogloss 'preparation' - 'dictation' - 'reconstruction' - 'analysis And Correction', but at the end, 'Appreciate and Organize' steps were newly added because of the nature of the poem text appreciation. The types and tools used to examine learners' changes were categorized into cognitive, positive, and reactive aspects. In terms of cognitive aspects, the researcher used the poetic comprehension ability test paper written by the researcher with reference to the poetic text reading ability test paper developed by Song, Hyang-lee(2013) and the reading ability test developed by Han, Chul-woo(2007). The positive aspects were divided into 5 items such as poetry reading confidence, poetry reading anxiety, poetry reading interest and poetry learning attitude, and poetry learning motivation test. The reaction aspect was examined the authenticity, interest, contribution and familiarity of the class by referring to the questionnaire for the analysis of the results of Kim Geum-nae(2016), and described one of the freely narrative items produced by Moon, Mi-sun(2011). In Chapter Ⅳ, the contents discussed in Ⅱ and Ⅲ were applied to the lesson and analyzed the result data. A quantitative analysis was conducted by analyzing the cognitive change through the poetic comprehension ability test paper and analyzing the positive aspect through attitude test. In addition, a qualitative analysis was conducted by analyzing contents of appreciating poetry text and analyzing instruction Reaction, and found educational implications of this study. First, the poetic text understanding lesson using Dictogloss improves the learner 's ability to understand poetic text. Second, the poetic text understanding class using Dictogloss has a positive effect on learners' attitudes toward poetry. Third, through Dictogloss, the learner enriched the appreciation poetic text and deepened the poetic situation and emotion. The understanding of poetic text using Dictogloss improves learner's ability to understand poetic text, enhances positive attitude toward poetry, and satisfies learners' interest and satisfaction. This can lead to the conclusion that Dictogloss is an effective way of teaching poetic text. In conclusion, this study is meaningful in that it emphasized the importance of poetic text understanding instruction, established learning elements for poetic text understanding learning, and suggested teaching method of poetic text understanding that learners can positively participate in. have. Especially, the teaching and learning method can be effectively used in teaching poetic texts in elementary school. Hopefully this study could be a step stone to future discourse on teaching method of poetic text and further, Korean language and literature.
