Unlike a mono-facial solar module, a bifacial solar module can generate power not only from the front but also from the rear. This characteristic makes the predictions of solar irradiation even more important. Especially, when a bifacial module is installed at 90 degrees facing East and West, the proportion of power generated from diffused solar irradiation is relatively large. This is because the direct solar irradiation reaching the module is smaller as compared with the module installed at 30 degrees. Therefore, power generated by the diffused solar irradiation is also an important factor in predicting the output of the bifacial module. Solar irradiation can be categorized into 3 types: direct solar irradiation, reflected solar irradiation and diffused solar irradiation. However, most of the solar irradiation data collected around the globe, only concern the direct irradiation on horizontal plane. In this paper, current is calculated and predicted by taking solar irradiation, including diffused one, into account. Experiments on voltage was not carried out since the voltage varies with the change of temperature of the module but does not vary with the change in amount of solar irradiation. In general, only direct solar irradiance is considered in equation for predicting current but in this paper, total solar irradiance including diffused solar radiation is used. Diffused solar irradiation is assumed to be same on both front and rear. The average value of diffused solar irradiation, that reaches the surface of the PV module installed at 90 degrees, for a month is used for the current prediction process. The predicted output of the bifacial PV(photovoltaic) module, using the model presented in this paper, showed smaller error compared with conventional prediction method using only direct solar irradiation. When accuracy test is done to bifacial PV module, installed to have the front side facing East, model using diffused solar irradiation showed better result: MAPE 4.207763 / MBE -0.14862 / RMSE 0.050282 / t-stat 5.190697. It is confirmed through various evaluation methods that the model using the diffused irradiation is more outstanding and more accurate prediction can be made.
