In this study, combined steam and carbon dioxide reforming of methane and process was investigated by using nickel-based catalysts supported on gamma-Al2O3. In order to develop the catalysts with superior activity, stability and coke resistance, NMC-Fe(x) catalysts were synthesized by co-impregnation method with different Fe loading amount of x wt%. Activity test was conducted using fixed bed reactor with 0.3g of catalyst bed at 800℃, 1 atm and a feed ratio of CH4 : H2O : CO2 = 1 : 0.9 : 1. The product gas was analyzed by GC and the physicochemical traits of the fresh and the used catalysts were also investigated by N2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, H2-TPR, CO2-TPD, FE-SEM and TGA. Except for iron at 7 wt%, it was found that adding appropriate amount of iron increased the activity of carbon dioxide and the resistance to carbon deposition and sintering, which resulted in deactivation. Also, the iron-supported catalysts showed a high stability in long-term reactions mainly due to the formation of filamentous carbon instead of graphite. The NMC-Fe(5)/Al2O3 catalyst was used for the process investigation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the fitness of CSDRM predictive model on ANN and RSM. With feed ratio (H2O+CO2)/CO2), flow rate (ml∙g-1h-1), and temperature (℃) as independent variables, the methane, carbon dioxide conversion(%), and H2/CO ratio were measured. Reaction temperature was also shown to influence conversion by adjusting thermodynamic equilibrium value. Based on the results of each modeling technique, it is believed that ANN showed less error than the RSM and more accurately modeled a nonlinear function of a higher order.
