Two-dimensional(2D) nanomaterials such as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride, and transition metal dichalcogenide are considered to be the most promising candidate for energy storage among various industries due to its superior electronic, thermal, and mechanical properties, etc. However, these 2D nanomaterials practically cannot serve a lot of their characterizations efficiently. The main reasons are that exfoliated 2D nanosheets tend to re-stack up due to weak van der Waals attractions between individual layers: the fundamental characteristic of 2D and a reducing dispersibility. These problems lead to a reduced specific surface area and miscibility, as a result, hinder the functional purpose of the nanomaterials. To solve the problems, many studies have been proceeding owing to develop the potential of 2D nanomaterials to create 2D nanomaterials based composite with other functional materials. These composite materials can be renovated as excellent functional composite materials accompanied by compositive advantages (e.g., chemical, structural, mechanical, thermal stability, etc.) including the properties of each material. In this study, a graphene or hexagonal boron nitride-based three kinds of hybrid composite materials were synthesized, analyzing energy storage characteristics. Firstly, a transparent and flexible piezoelectric sensor(TFPS) was fabricated by using the functionalized 2D boron nitride nanosheets(OA-BNNSs) and PDMS polymer. Due to the modification of the BNNS surface with oleylamine, the improved miscibility of the composite leads to a transparent, stretchable, polymer-based composite (OA-BNNS / PDMS). The output voltage and output power generated by the TFPS correspondingly reached 22 V and 40 μW (power density: 106 μW/cm3) under periodic push force(80 kg).
Second, a mixed valence manganese oxide(MnOx)/potassium (K+) ion-doped, 2D-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite material was synthesized for an efficient supercapacitor electrode. In particular, the abundant K+ ions remaining on the surface of rGOs helps to develop mixed-valent MnOx at a suitable annealing temperature of 500 ℃. Due to the synergetic effects by the presence of mixed-valence MnOx and K+ ions, the resulting composite structure(MnOx/K+-rGO: GM500) showed excellent capacitive properties, reaching a maximum specific capacitance of 1955.6 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1. Finally, The nanotree-like vertical NiCo2S4 was grown on Nickel-doped reduced graphene oxide sheet(Ni-RGO) as a supercapacitor electrode material. The nanotree-like NiCo2S4 structure could be grown from doped-Nickel on the reduced graphene oxide sheets. This vertical structure that has an electrochemically enriched active site and a rapid transport path of electrons/ions displayed stable and excellent performance. As a result, The nanotree-like NiCo2S4/Ni-RGO exhibited a specific capacitance of 879.01 F g-1 a current density of 0.5 A g-1 and outstanding long-term cycling performance of 91.6 % after 10000 cycles. Overall, 2D nanomaterials-based functional hybrid composite materials with organic materials or metal oxides were developed to architectures of various designs by controlling an interface and structure. These functional hybrid composites revealed superior characteristics as energy storage materials. Additionally, It is expected to provide an innovative advancement toward a flexible, transparent, and environment-friendly for energy storage.
