The objective of this study was to examine web fiction user’s fandom culture and then graft on cultural activities which were based on the idea of Benjamin’s flaneur and collector and the idea of Fiske’s fandom onto web fiction fandom culture, thus verifying the diversity of web fiction fandom culture. For this, this study collected web fiction fandom culture user’s various viewpoints of fan culture based on Benjamin’s idea of aura collapse, flaneur and collector and Fiske’s idea of fandom. This study also looked into the sociocultural implication of play experience with which web fiction users become a fan through their fandom activities based on the behavior of flaneur and collector. Study subjects were fans who were enjoying web fiction fandom culture online. Study findings are as follows: Study participants searched each other by various methods within web fiction fandom, thus communicating among them and making and maintaining their relations. Study participant’s behavior of flaneur could link fandom culture users each other by online’s characteristic two-way communication, and expand their relations all the more. The behavior of collector in two-way communication regards a creator as playing not a role of absolute target but a role of medium or the same user who ties the fandom. Study participants actively search and consume information as well as create the second edition firsthand and reproduce it by mixing other contents such as web-comics, thus taking part in fandom culture actively through positive interactions. As they directly communicate with the author through web fiction fandom activities, web fiction fandom activities expand unlimitedly in real time. As the aura of the author collapses, users give a positive thought to web fiction fandom activities. Study participants collect information from the Internet and reprocess or firsthand produce web fictions, thus making new culture. Therefore, they make a positive and productive culture, search information as a flaneur and collector, and take part in diverse fandom activities in order to get play experience. However, there are complicated problems in the process of play experience in which they enjoy fandom culture and search information. Because the main agency of fandom is popular culture which is mostly based on one-off and consuming culture. So there is question about whether they can play the active role of criticizing fandom culture, while they take play experience from it. In order to settle down these problems, needed is not a blind expression or listening of viewpoints but respect for their cultural preferences and tastes. In other words, it is necessary to clearly recognize and understand the fact that the target point of member’s fandom activities is different according to their tastes and purposes. This study seems to be meaningful in that it examined the establishing process of web fiction fandom culture and its sociocultural implication by grafting Benjamin’s idea of ‘collapse of aura’ ‘flaneur’ and ‘collector’ and Fiske’s idea of ‘fandom’ onto online user’s web fiction fandom culture and play experience behavior. In addition, this study looked into web fiction fandom culture academically which has not been dealt with in researches on fandom culture, and carried out in-depth interviews of study participants, thus collecting a variety of web fiction-related ideas and making people understand web fiction fandom culture. Based on the experience of users who enjoying web fiction fandom culture, this study verified the limitation of web fiction fandom culture and tried to find out solutions. Finally, this study presented the limitation and alternative of web fiction fandom culture concretely, thus providing help to follow-up studies in the future.
