According to researchs concerning the cultures of both domestic and international tea, seemingly it's bare to compare the cultures of asian tea with western tea. Mostly the research has been conducted under the prevailing mood that is like one part tends to look down on the others, and the part of study in the tools or tea trade has been a main theme until these days. So the purpose of this study is that we try to compare tea cultures of England and Japan which have very similar geological conditions. Thus I would like to take some time to look into the overall procedures and influences of tea culture - how those two countries absorbed the tea culture and how tea culture took root including the mutual relation between tea culture and social strategy. This study focuses on the characteristics of the two countries, pointing at the each country's cultural circumstance based on the christian view in England and Zen of Japan in modern times. Modern time is considered as a renovative period, during which both England and Japan got to become the strong powered nations in europe or in asia. Furthermore under that developing situation, tea culture of those countries got generalized. Despite of the geological and cultural differences of two countries, we can see many things in common in terms of introduction of tea culture. Firstly, the tea was introduced to them in the almost same age. The time of introduction of tea seems to have been the most late because those two countries were located at the corner of the each continent, compared with one of another countries. However, it is interesting that since tea had been imported to them, not only the tea culture was developed at the most but also highly unique style of tea culture was found in them. Somehow we should concentrate on the fact that there is difference that unlike Japan which tea culture was situated steadily for a long time, England had quite short period of settlement of tea culture. Second, tea culture which was originated at the high status like nobles and royal families was propagated to the low status consisting of common people and working class population. At the beginning of tea imported, the tea was a symbol of luxury items. So tea culture was a prestige which was owned by only nobles. Later, Japan started to cultivate its own tea crops and England could have tea material from a mass production in the lots of colonies of it. Having getting the shortage of tea supply solved ,the common people class could taste the tea culture and then low rank enjoyed it as well. On the contrary that in Japan, the male called warriors had a very important role in spreading the tea culture, in England, it was the female that delivered the tea culture to the low rank people. Lastly, the tea culture of Japan and England came to be the ordinary one in their life. However, the procedures in those two look pretty different. As mentioned before, Japan had very long history of tea culture settlement and it has been inherited as a tradition throughout a long time, but the tea culture of England was developed widely and rapidly for a short time due to a turning point called the Industrial Revolution. So this document studied the tea culture comparing two countries within the modern times. It's hard to deny the fact that tea culture affected very strongly those countries even if studying only tea culture section can't universalize all-round societies. I think there is significance in researching the difference and the similarity of those countries' tea culture that was formed at the opposite area of the world. Thus I want to get more in-depth studies about asian and western tea culture conducted with stepping stone like my study for the future.
