Bio-compatible nanoparticles have been focused on various applications such as an imaging, drug/gene delivery, and so on. In this study, we successfully prepared the magnetic-silica core-shell nanostructure possessing unique magnetic and fluorescent properties. Especially, we applied meso-porous silica shell on the synthesized magnetic nanoparticle and treated a few chemicals on the shell by surface modification method in order to the increasing of stability in a buffer or aqueous solution. We effectively incorporated a drug and gene to the meso-porous silica shell for the other application. The magnetic iron oxide ferrite core with uniform size distribution and meso-porous silica shell nanoparticle was synthesized easily by combination of pyrolysis and sol-gel process method. The prepared nano-structures were characterized the shape, size and structural information using electron microscopy, powder x-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and so on. To determine nanoparticle behavior in a cell, an organic fluorescent dye was anchored onto the nanoparticle and confirmed the uptakes into the cell using a confocal microscope analysis. These magnetic nanoparticle and bio-compatible meso-porous silica shell with large surface area will be effectively utilized to the various bio-fields as like developing cell efficiency and therapeutic application using a drug/gene delivery as well as MR monitoring simultaneously.
