In this paper, I have studied the fabrication of MEMS gas sensor system which can detect environment harmful gases. Al:ZnO, TiO2, SnO2, and Metallic MXene were used as sensing materials. Formaldehyde(HCHO), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ammonia (NH3), which are typical environmentally harmful gases, were used as test target gas. Sensing materials were deposited on the micro-hotplate of Accendo Co., Ltd., and a MEMS gas sensor system was fabricated by combining the micro-hotplates with different sensing materials. Experimental results confirmed that Al-doped ZnO sensor reacted only with NO2. SnO2 showed responses to all gases but reacted best to NO2 and was the least reactive to CO. TiO2 also reacted to all gases, which in this case was the best response to CO and the weakest response to formaldehyde. MXene reacted only to formaldehyde. The results of this experiment confirmed the possibility of manufacturing a smart sensor system that can identify typical harmful gases. By using these results we can expect the development of electronic nose for environmental monitoring.
