This paper pays attention to the fact that Korean causative expressions are not only essential grammatical syllabus but also the most difficult ones for those who learning Korean. So, by conducting an experiment to verify its effectiveness through input processing models, which is expected to be effective in learning causative expressions. Also, based on theoretical research, analysis of textbooks, and results of experiments, this thesis tried to find effective teaching methods for Korean causative expressions.
In Chapter I, defines the needs and objectives of this research and considers the preceding studies by dividing them into ‘study on learning effects of input processing models’ and ‘study on teaching methods of Korean causative expressions’
In Chapter II, presents background theories of this research specifically.
Firstly, the thesis presents the meaning and structure of Korean causative expression precisely then sums up how the causative expressions have been dealing with in Korean education. The expression of causative in the Korean education presents by dividing into ‘causative expression in Korean textbooks’ and ‘causative expression in Korean evaluation’. First, we will analyze textbooks from five university-affiliated university language centers to find out what vocabulary and example sentences are used to learn causative expressions, and discuss limitations of the textbooks.
Thus, Korean language textbooks that were published by five major universities in Seoul were set as the research targets. Next, check the level of causative expression in the Korean education according to the Test of Korean Language (TOPIK) and the International Standard Model for Korean Language Education. Finally, to suggest better teaching methods, the theoretical basis of form focus teaching, input processing, and processing teaching are summarized and described.
In Chapter III, based on the theoretical background outlined in Chapter II, designs experiments for verification of input processing effects and performs preliminary, main and delayed experiments according to the designed procedures In addition, the results are described, analyzed, and discussed based on the experimental data. In this process, the SPSS 21.0 Statistical Analysis Program is utilized for objective analysis of data. This chapter briefly describes, however, because what is important in this experiment is not the experiment itself but the finding better teaching methods of causative expression through analysis of the results of the effect verification experiment.
In Chapter IV, based on all the results discussed from Chapter I to Chapter III, designs a WPPTF class model using form-focused teaching techniques to explore ways to teach Chinese language learners effective causative expression.
Moreover, detailed contents on the form of the WPPTF class model composition for the actual stages are were presented.
At last, in Chapter V, summarizes and organizes the research, clarifies limitations, and makes suggestions for further study.
