This experiment was conducted to investigate effects of complex microorganism supplementation on odor reduction in pig slurry. In this experiment, the microorganisms widely used commercially such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Bacillus licheniformis were selected. In experiment 1, the optimum microorganisms were selected by evaluating odor reduction effect after inoculating 1.0 × 108 CFU / g according to the combination of microorganisms in sterilized pig slurry. In experiment 2, inoculation was performed in the order of 1.0 × 108, 1.0 × 109, and 5.0 × 108 CFU / g to evaluate odor reduction effect in pig slurry during experimental period. In experiment 3, the inoculation of microorganisms into the pilot-scale slurry pit was carried out on odor reduction effect using a complex microorganism (T15) in which four microorganisms were combined by the result of experiment 2. The ammonia gas, hydrogen sulfide gas, and odor intensity were measured using detector tube and portable odor digital detector. The pH, ammonia nitrogen, and volatile fatty acids were analyzed by collecting the pig slurry. In experiment 1, the ammonia gas concentration of treatment groups was significantly lower than that of control group (P<0.05). In experiment 2, the concentration of ammonia gas was lowest in T15 group (P<0.05) after 162 h, and there was no significant difference among treatments. The concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas was gradually increased during the entire experiment and it was lowest in the T15 group after 162 h of incubation and until the end of the experiment (P<0.05). Odor intensity showed a significant difference among the treatments after 162 h (P<0.05) and the value of T15 group was lowest after 162 h (P<0.05) until the end of the experiment. In experiment 3, the ammonia gas concentration of microorganism inoculation treatment was significantly lower than that of control group (P<0.05) and there was no significant difference in the hydrogen sulfide gas and odor intensity between treatments. Therefore, the selected complex microorganisms could be used effectively in reducing ammonia gas in pig slurry.
