Recently, the development of a light-weight vehicle is the most important issue in the automobile industry to improve fuel efficiency, vehicle performance. In this paper, we propose a method to optimize the design of a vehicle seatbelt and its attachment by considering the weight and stiffness. And we propose a method to verify the structural stability of the tensile strength and vibration of the optimized seatbelt and its attachment. The main research contents and methods of this paper are described as follows. 1) To select the objective functions of the optimal design, it determines the priority of the components that make up the seatbelt and it defines the objective functions for Optimal design for weight and stiffness according to the characteristics of the parts. In addition, constraint conditions are defined as stress, displacement, and natural frequency. And then it is designed the initial model that is considered advantageous for structural stability based on the original model. Optimal design is performed through design factors that allow geometry and dimensions to change after dividing into non-design areas and design areas. 2) The Optimal design of a single-objective is determined as a method of Optimal design according to the characteristics of each part and performed. The methods are Optimal design method using sensitivity analysis using theory and FEM, size Optimal design method using the DOE, Topology Optimal design method. 3) The Optimal design of a multi-objective can get the optimum solution by trade-off method and the weighted sum method. But these are not easy to determine the optimum solution. So we propose the weighted sum method applied to the Standard Guide-Line that uses a method normalizing the objective function and Standard Guide-Line linking utopia points and nadir points. And these three Optimal design methods are analyzed about accuracy and reliability. 4) To verify the structural stability of the optimized seatbelt, an effective method is proposed as follows. First, the results of the seatbelt static tensile strength are compared and verified by statistical analysis according to the hypothesis verification. Second, the natural frequency and mode shape are analyzed through mode analysis. And the response frequency is verified for external loads through transient response analysis and test of vehicle condition about the vibration characteristics. Finally, vibration noise evaluation is verified through the laboratory. As a result, we designed the Optimal design of a vehicle seatbelt and its attachment by considering the weight and stiffness And the Optimal design methods were performed differently according to the number of objectives. For multi-objective function, we proposed to find the optimal solution by applied to the Standard Guide-Line as a way to improve the problem of the existing weighted sum method and it has been confirmed that accuracy is within 3%. And we verified that the weight was 18% less than the original design. We verified the static tensile strength of the optimized model increased by 6% on average and the 2-sample t-test was performed according to the hypothesis verification. It was also confirmed that the natural frequency (96 Hz) of the optimized model was three times higher than the input frequency (30 Hz) and that the optimized model did not respond to external loads within 100 Hz in the transient response analysis and test of vehicle condition.
